A delightful beer to try on Halloween. Enjoyed 31 October 2012, reviewed from notes.

Pours black and thick, opaque. Topped with medium tan-brown head. When I near the bottom of the glass, I can see that it's very dark reddish-brown. Okay lacing.

Smells like toasted coconut, layered over the stout, which is pretty hidden in the smell. Definitely much more coconut than stout in the smell, and it just becomes more coconut-y as it warms up.

Taste is amazing. Like a coconut stout cake. Really well balanced, definitely sweet, with loads of coconut. The stout mostly provides a base, but it's a robust base, roasty, a little chocolate, mildly hopped. Finish is a lasting soft bitterness and coconut. What I find so amazing is that two things I never would have thought to put together can harmonize so well. Stunning.

Mouthfeel is thick and chewy but light. Plenty of carbonation, just the right amount.

This is one heck of a beer. Loads of coconut, but not so much that I can't taste the rest of it. A stunning, delicious dessert of a beer. I don't even really like coconut that much, but it's so fine and gentle in this beer that I can't help but enjoy it.

Imperial pint on tap @ Town Hall Tap-$6

Served with a thin finger of beige head topping off a dark brown brew. Aroma is first and foremost coconut, followed up with sweet chocolate. Dessert is served. Taste is like the aroma, all I can think of is this is a like a liquefied Mounds bar, with minimal sweetness. Absolutely delicious. Each drink is as exciting as the first. An amazing beer. Carbonation is light which works well for this beer, body is silky but not at all overpowering. This is easily the best milk stout I have had. Well worth the hype. Too busy enjoying this beer to take good notes. This is an easy one to rate-I know I'll be getting at least one of these every time I find it on tap at one of the Town Hall locations.

On tap at the brewpub. Served in a standard shaker pint glass.

Appearance: Color is a dark oily black with a moderate amount of bubbles. About two finger of tan head with decent retention. A decent amount of lacing lingers around the glass.

Smell: A sweet dark roasty aroma. Dark roasted malts with hints of chocolate, coffee, and a huge aroma of coconuts. Also some hints of caramel, toffee, and biscuit. Some brown sugar and a little milk, cream, and nuts. Some very light hints of earthy hops in the background. The coconut and chocolate scent is pretty big. Quite a nice and interesting aroma.

Taste: Just as dark and sweet as it smells. Big taste of coconut that really stands out. Dark malts with a taste of chocolate, coffee, milk, toast, caramel, toffee, and biscuit. A fair amount of brown sugar adds to the sweetness. A little hint of cream and nuts. Hop presence is very subtle. Taste is pretty sweet overall but not enough to be cloying or overly syrupy. Coconut taste is big and good.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a carbonation on the high end of medium. Feels very creamy, silky, and smooth. Sweet and somewhat syrupy but its not overbearing.

Overall: A very good milk/sweet stout. A sweet dessert beer that is big on flavor but manages to keep the sweetness in check. The coconut brings a nice kick.

Growler shared by JP - much obliged!

Pours black with a half-finger tan head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of equal amounts of smooth roasted malts and dark chocolate flavors. Also present are of course coconut aromas that seem closer to coconut milk than normal dried coconut.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Lightly roasted malt and dark chocolate flavors kick things off. Joining in almost immediately are large coconut flavors that are a bit sweeter than in the aroma. Coconut and dark chocolate flavors carry through to a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is very good. It's got a smooth thickness with soft carbonation.

Drinkability is great. I finished my glass very quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall I wasn't expecting to enjoy this beer nearly as much as I did. A very good base stout is key here as is the fact that the coconut influence isn't overpowering. A huge flavor profile in a relatively small ABV that is well worth a shot.

Didn't think I'd ever come across this one. Shared graciously by capra12. From a 64oz growler into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Pours pitch black with a .5 finger pink mocha head with low retention. Oily thick legs but very little lace. Average for the style.

Huge notes of lactose, whole milk, and cream. Roasted malt lingers ever-so-slightly in the background. Also hints of coconut and chocolate. Mellow overall.

Opens coconut, chocolate, slightly roasted malt, lactose, coca-cola. Vanilla towards the end with coconut and almond at the end. Very very good.

Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Silky smooth in the mouth and slick and oily going down. Slightly messy finish with a nice, lingering aftertaste. This is spot on for the style and for delivering the mellow, balanced, subtle flavors going on in this beer.

Absolutely wonderful, I could easily take down two full growlers of this for myself. Great balance in the flavor and the mouthfeel is a dream. Wish I could get more of this one and this rates up there with the best in the style.

Poured from a growler into a Bell's tulip. I tried this with some other Chicago BA's.

A very slick dark brown near black liquid with a thin khaki collar.

The nose is awesome! Tons of coconut, chocolate, sweet malts, that's about it. It's a candy bar in a glass!

The first gulp gives me milk chocolate, dark chocolate, malted milk, tons of coconut, coconut milk, coffee, a little sour lactose.

Mouthfeel is slick and medium bodium with medium carbonation

The best coconut beer I've had to date, but the sweetness makes it a little hard to drink a ton of it. Thanks to d0b for the chance!

On-tap at Town Hall Tap. Yup, it sure does taste like a Mounds bar. The coconut character was richer with mild toasted notes over the sweet candy flavors. I don't get much milk stout here. There's a chocolate character in the background and a small but distinct taste of lactose. The body is fairly thick and frankly I had trouble finishing the 20 oz pint. It's a great dessert beer, if you like a good Mounds bar or just like coconut. I would have liked a touch more flavor that wasn't coconut-based. Still, it's easily the best coconut beer I've ever had.

64 oz. growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Black with a little transparency at the edges. Small khaki head. Thick collar.

Smell - Lots of coconut. Slight acidic aroma. Chocolate.

Taste - Coconut is less strong but still potent. Coffee roasted malt. Sweet caramel. Chocolate.

Mouthfeel - Medium body. Light for a stout. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - Good, but I'm clearly missing the hype.

Big thanks goes out to caSSino for sharing this one during the One Year Anniversary of My Wreck Tasting and to MBrausen for sending it to him! Served from growler into a Crooked Stave ‘Crooked Line’ tulip. Poured pitch black with a one finger tan head that subsided to a minimal amount very quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, coconut, and cream. The flavor was of sweet malt, milk, cream, coconut, subtle roasted malt, and bread. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly great brew. As stated in a few other reviews including aasher who was drinking off the same growler, think Mounds. That pretty much nails the aroma almost exactly. The flavor was very nice as well with a very nice sweetness aspect going on. Loads of coconut going on in both areas. Wish it would have been a little thicker on the mouthfeel to take it up another notch. Very well done brew that I would suggest to any craft beer veteran or n00bie alike.

Served in a Hopleaf tulip glass. Thanks to d0b for sharing.

Black with a glint of ruby in the meniscus. Across the surface there was a smooth swath of creamy tan foam. Spotty lace remnants around the edges.

Very rich toasted coconut aroma. Unlike anything i've inhaled in a beer before. Not overly sweet, just full on authentic toasty coconut.

Distinct coconut meat/milk flavor, lightly toasty, backed by some chocolate milk sweetness. Ultra smooth with the consistency of chocolate milk also. More than a pint would be overindulgence, but one is just right. Well put together, and far more than just a novelty. This was exceptional, despite my hatred for grated coconut in foods (a texture-based hate).

Another big thanks to Steasy66, cheers man!

Appearance. Pours a deep, dark brown ...as close to black as brown can be with almost no light ocming through at the edges. Capped with a finger of espresso foam coloured head that doesn't last very long.

Smell. Plenty of sweet coconut, some dark chocolate and light and creamy-sweet coffee, and maybe a little vanilla and toasted wood.

Taste. Whoa, a ton of roasted fresh coconut, a bit of dark chocolateroasted malt, coffee and vanilla, but that fresh toasty coconut almost drown it all out. This is not a bad thing. The more I drink, the more I dig it.

Mouthfeel. This is the highlight for me. Medium body, but with an oily feel that goes well with the toasted coconut. There's a medium amout of ultra-smoooth carbonation. Just awesome stuff.

Overall. Uniques and absolutely delicious. Probably the best feel I've come across, and that coconut, fantastic. Thanks again Ryan!!!

Growler poured into a snifter. Beer poured a dark opaque through with a thin film of tan colored head. Not much head from swirling, and no lacing.

Nose was heavy on toasted coconut, roasted nuts and milk chocolate. Someone suggested Almond Joy and it was a perfect description for the aroma.

Taking a sip, the toasted coconut was dominant, though not too sweet. Some minimal milk chocolate, roasted malt, and light nuttiness struggles to make itself known mid palate, but the coconut really shines through to the finish. Lingering coconut and roasted malt on the finish, really strong flavors here.

Body was light to medium, surprisingly so for a milk stout which I though would be a bit thicker. Some decent carbonation from the growler pour, decent for a porter without being excessively bubbly. Very easy to drink and tasty if you enjoy a nice toasted coconut.
