On-tap at Town Hall. This clear amber beer is a great example how of how pale ales don't need to be strong to be tasty. This all-Simcoe session pale ale actually reminded me of Centennial and Casacade hops, but with of touch of floral pine resin added in. The malts just provide a background and the hops dominate, but they're not so overpowering that the beer knocks out your palate. This a great sessionable pale ale. Give it a try if you can.

"Elves' Elixir" Minneapolis Town Hall

Clear, coppery color, slim white head atop.

Lightly hoppy aroma, bready, too. A nice balance of sweet and bitter.

Taste: brisk bitter, then easy-peasy. Biscuity malt glides under light hops. Excellent drinkability. Pitch perfect British pale ale, or bitter, or whatever it's trying to be. Very fitting for elves. They probably can't handle anything stronger.

A pale ale with a lemon/citrus bite...malt is slightly bready...bitter grapefruit....more bitter than juicy...lighter bodied...could use a little more malt body....a little jagged and rough..the simcoe really doesn't shine as much as I hoped...

To be honest my scores are a little high here based on what I am tasting but I am putting them here because I had this two other times and liked it and thought it was well done...not sure why this growler is tasting so harsh but it is....my memories of the two previous growlers I shared with BigHugey were much better...then again maybe it was the company that made it seem that way....

I thought for sure I liked this better than Grinches Grog but not anymore...give me the Grog anytime..

After enjoying the Festivus 2009 this one looked the next tastiest. Pale Ale brewed with Simcoe's. Gotta love that. Drank from a generic pint glass.

Appearance- Pours a light yellowish orange with a decent one finger spritzy cap. Relatively no cap remains but a thin collar and fair amount sticky lacing remain.
Smell- Very light and a sort of unassuming nose. Very lightly fruity but that's overshadowed by the earthy sort of pineyness. It's light but nice. A touch of caramel malts add another light dimension but again, it's subtle.
Taste- Starts with a kiss of piney hops that is ever so slightly bitter and grassy. This should be a new category of American Extra Pale Ale because it's light. Some doughy malt adds a backbone for all the Simcoe's but for the most part it's just hoppy. The finish is lightly bitter and over before you know it.
Mouthfeel- Medium to light body with very little carbonation. Oily and slick.
Drinkability- Not bad. It's definitely a Pale Ale and easy drinking but I wish the Simcoe's were slightly stronger. Either way, glad I tried.

Clear copper body. The light beige head has good cling to it. Spotty lace left all over the place. Great aroma. Bright, citric, lemony, orangey, snappy. Also some slight notions of sweet caramel malts. Aroma carries over superbly to the flavor. Very crisp and hoppy feel to this beer. Fruity and citric with lemon peel coming through strong and zest of grapefruit. Slight pungent notes of grapefruit pulp. Base of carmelized malts doesn't overtake the intricate hop attributes, which also exhibit some resiny and oily flavors. This is superbly balanced and very enjoyable. Top notch pale ale on all accords.

The color is lightly cloudy golden amber with a tan frothy head with great retention and leaves a bit of lacing.

The nose is strong on the Simcoe hop notes, strong yet mild at the same time. It showcases the subtle qualities of hops, and doesn't blast you with intense bitterness. Fairly assertive malt backbone as well. Good nose for a Pale Ale.

The taste is just like the nose, showing off the subtleties of hops without being overpowering, specifically Simcoe. Straight forward with a light malt backbone.

Mouthfeel is light to medium, probably more medium, smooth and easy drinking. This is a great session Pale Ale if you ask me. I ordered a pitcher and didn't have a problem splitting it with the girlfriend.

With so many Pale Ales and hoppier beers coming out of Town Hall, it's hard to say if this is a memorable one. It's good for sure, and definitely on par with their more well known beers. Time will tell if it sticks around in peoples memories.
