4.9% ABV. Served on-draught into a 10oz stem-goblet at the brewery in Minneapolis. Reviewed from notes taken around Thanksgiving.
A: Pours a one finger tan colour head of nice cream and thickness, but poor retention (<20 seconds). Body colour is a solid nontransparent opaque black. No yeast particles are visible. No bubble show.
Sm: Musty chocolate, caramel, dark malts, and musty coffee. A mild strength aroma. No yeast or alcohol is detectable.
T: Brewers' licorice, vague noncommital chocolate, dark malts, and dominant caramelized malt providing the foundation. Overly simple for a porter. Balance is fair. Somewhat boring and bland, especially within the style. Lacks complexity and subtlety. No yeast or alcohol comes through.
Mf: Smooth and wet. Fair carbonation. Decently thick. Suits the flavours alright.
Dr: I wouldn't have it again, but it's a passable -albeit pedestrian- porter. Quite mundane. Needs work. It does hide its low ABV well. Meh.

Had a pint off the cask at the brewpub. It appear black with a thick, light tan head from the tap's sparkler. As expected, it's a fine example of the style. Though it seems to straddle the thin line between English and American porter. It's more than just clean cocoa and roasted malts (though it does include those tasty elements), with mild earthy dark chocolate and black, roasted barley. I thought the aroma was a bit muted, but otherwise it was a very tasty beer.

Pours a dark brown beer with slight funny highlights. Slight cloudiness perceptible despite the dark color. Espresso frothy head recedes rather quickly to thin ring.
Aroma brings out major chocolate notes with hints of cola and a bit of roast. The roast seems a bit subdued. Deep toffee notes.
Incredibly smooth with no astringency and little bitterness. Dark Chocolate is the dominating flavor over a toffee base.
Smooth with low carbonation makes the mouthfeel satisfying. Would be nice to be a little fuller.
Overall this is a very good porter. Well crafted and easily quaffable.
