Thanks to Rutager for sharing this one.

A: Black liquid with minimal tan head.

S: Raisins, molasses, figs, port, red wine and oak barrel.

T: Red wine, raisins, prunes, molasses, old barrel, roasted barley, chocolate and caramel.

M: Thick viscosity and a low level of carbonation.

O: Make sure this beer is served at room temperature, as it was extremely rough drinking when served cold.

Big thank you to Maximum12 for hooking me up with this big badass growler.

Appearance. Pours like old dirty engine oil. Capped with a skim of dark tan head.

Smell. Whiskey and old barrel wood, port, molasses and raisins, red wine and even more barrel.

Taste. Whiskey, molasses, red wine, raisins, and a shit ton of barrel wood with some cocoa in the finish. Huge flavors and gets better the more I drink ...imagine that!!!

Mouthfeel. Medium-full body, medium-low smooth carbonation. Pretty nice for a beer this big.

Overall. A pretty extreme beer. Glad to have tried, but won't go too far out of my way to try it again.

This beer completely caught me off guard - my hopes weren't all that high after reading some of the initial reviews, but this beer tickles me right where I like to be tickled.

Complete absence of clarity... a consistent chocolate brown collar produces thick oily lace. An abyss of a beverage in this regard; as dark as it gets.

Remarkably smooth on the nose. Dark chocolate, raspberry, dessert sugars like caramel and toffee, a wide array of barrel notes... vanilla, oak, earthy spice. There's no real discernible alcohol presence.

Wow. Vinous red fruit flavors, black forest deliciousness, a touch of sour cherry or grape, bitter coffee grounds. An incredible sense of complexity and balance. Fruits and sweets and spirits and religion... all wrapped into one single beer. Divine.

Like nothing else I can think of. This beer is a thing of brilliance.

On tap at the brewpub. Served in a Town Hall chalice glass.

Appearance: Color is a oily pitch black. Moderate amount of bubbles. Huge four finger deep tan head with decent retention. Leaves some good creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A big rich aroma of whiskey and sweet dark malts along with some big undertones of fruit. Scent of whiskey up front with good hints of oak and vanilla. Dark roasted malts with hints of dark chocolate, coffee, cream, burnt caramel, toffee, and a little smoked malt. Some sweet molasses sugar. Big fruit presence with a big scent of cherry from the wine aging. Also hints of prune, raisin, and fig. Subtle hop hints in the background. A very good smell.

Taste: Like nose hints at, a rich taste of sweet dark malt, whiskey, and fruit. Whiskey taste upfront with notes of vanilla and oak. Dark roasted malts with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, burnt caramel, cream, toffee, nuts, and some smoke. A fair amount of sweet molasses in the mix as well. Taste of cherry from the wine barrel. Also some notes of raisin, prune, and fig. Subtle hop presence in the background. A very solid stout taste with some good oak and fruit notes.

Mouthfeel: Full bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Rich, creamy, and somewhat syrupy. A little alcohol heat is felt but its not overly boozy.

Overall: A very good barrel aged imperial stout. Solid whiskey and dark malt flavor and the wine barrel adds an interesting twist.

On tap. Thick dark chocolate brown pour, 3/4 inch creamy brown head and an aroma of dark chocolate and a little wine. Flavor was also plenty of dark chocolate, dry oaky wine and incredibly balanced for an imperial stout. My only complaint is the price. Really good beer? Yes. However probably not worth $45/growler.

On tap at Tuesday night of Barrel Week at Town Hall.

Pours dark with small head that dissipates quickly. Little to no lacing and small ring of bubbles around the edge. Looks like I expected an extended aged stout to look.

Smell is a winner. Faint bourbon, vanilla, caramel, blending with oak and barrel notes.

Tastes hits with faint hit of the bourbon stout, but then the French oak barrels dominate. Seems out of balance at this point and the finish gets very vineous. Maybe time will help this mellow and blend to balance the bourbon and oak.

Mouthfeel is thin but works well.

Overall this is a decent Town Hall barrel aged beer, that I hope comes together with some more time on it.

Dark with a very good dark brown colored head... a good looking beer this one is.

Fruit preserves, general tartness and faint coffee in the aroma. Tastes tart, dark fruity, chocolate cherries, with a lingering roast. Kinda "Belgian" style in its strong tartness, that is similar to the strongly charred character of Belgian stouts, and in its high carbonation + clean finish. Medium feel.

Disappointing in that one of the double barrels (bourbon) is felt only in the booze.

7 bucks/12 oz.

Served on tap at town hall in a snifter.

A finger or so of tan head. Color is a deep black.

Flavor profile is red wine notes off the nose. Very deep. The red wine carries into the flavor and is fairly dominate. It's tough to pick up the other barrel flavors. Deep chocolate, raisins, plums, dark cherries. It kind of has a sour twang to it. Fairly roasty.

Mouthfeel: dry and roasted. Full bodied with a good amount of carbonation. Ends clean. Nice feel.

Overall, a very complex beer, but the red wine barrels dominated too much. It tasted like it was either a bit sour or bit infected. I don't know. I prefer regular Jack Frost over it 9.9 out of 10 times. This beer just didn't do it for me. Wouldn't spend $7 on another glass.
