This is a medieval theme restaurant in the town hall square in the old town of Tallinn. Sure, it's extremely touristy but it's also a blast. The restaurant has three creaky floors with wooden benches and is very dimly lit. We were there in the shoulder season (September) on a weekday night and it was still packed with people. The waitresses are great and are dressed to fit the medieval theme as well. The menu is huge and is quite heavy on the meats with interesting choices such as boar, bear, and elk. I had elk sausage and it was delicious.

They serve three beers that they make and they were all excellent. The dark beer with herbs was my favorite. I also sampled the honey beer which was also excellent. My wife had the light cinnamon beer which I also enjoyed quite a bit. The beers are served in clay mugs.

I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Tallinn.

Just across from the old city hall is this fun, medieval-themed restaurant. All of the food and drink are supposed to be of the time period. The place has lots of atmosphere with gentle lighting, long wooden tables. It does feel as though we've stepped into a time warp or at least onto the set of a sword and sorcery film.

We did not try the food other than the roasted cinnamon nuts and the reindeer jerky.

They have exactly three beers. It is difficult to get any straight answers from the staff as they charmingly insist on staying in character pretending not to know modern brewing techiques and claiming that the beers are all brewed by monks living in the basement. The beers are likely cask beers and all are served in chilled clay mugs which were a delight. The first two beers, a dark honey beer and an herbed dark beer, are really the same beer base with either a honey or herb mixture added. The additions really make the beers. We were allowed to try just the base and it seemed quite plain. The finished products are wonderful and quite different. Finally there is a light cinnamon beer which was good but not as good as either of the other two.

We entered this festive looking building in old Tallinn with high expectations of traditional olden European food fare. We were not dissappointed; the food was fantastic. Everything I had was very flavorful and complemented the rest of the dish. My biggest supprise upon speaking with our waitress was that they brew their own beer. Three brews made from olden recipies are offered. There is a honey beer which is the best example of the style I've ever had. Also a strong herb spiced beer brewed in the traditional nordic santi style which I thought to be absolutely wonderful. Also, a lighter cinnimin spiced beer which I did not get to try is available. Brews are served in traditional clay tankards. Service is fantastic and the atmosphere is top notch. Think Midevil Times themepark, but actually authentic and not contrived. This is an absolute must must stop for all who journey to Tallinn, even if you're not a BA.
