The brewer here usually brews his IPA's on cask. This is a prime example as to why he should mix it up a bit. Served on tap at the brewpub, this pours a clear amber color with a frothy white head and ample lacing on the glass. The smell is(by far)the least appetizing part of this beer's appeal-it's earthy and a bit sour. The taste is quite different(thankfully)from the smell. There is a strong hop presence. The hop taste is primarily bitter(rather than citrussy or piney), but it lingers. I was still tasting it while I was biking home from the brewpub. Additionally there is a fruity taste reminiscent of orange and(slightly of)lemon. There is also a toasty rye flavor that helps balance the hops. The mouthfeel is spot on-it's rich and tasty! The drinkability is very good. My hop-head brother thinks it's the second best beer he's ever had from here(first was the Giant Star). I think it's pretty darn good!

Nice clear amber with a dense white head. Not much lacing. Aroma is spicy(rye?),bready and piney. The flavour is again spicy(must be the rye)and hoppy. Very dry. Not much malt sweetness to speak of. Bitterness is moderatly agressive as is the hop flavour. Good beer and glad to see these guys putting IPAs on regular "pushed" draft versus their beer engines. I think with a little more hop aroma and just a touch of malt sweetness this beer would be outstanding. Well done.

On-tap at the brew pub: Glossy medium orange with a firm and strong finger high capping of foam that lasts quite well and laces all over the place with lots of sheeting action.

Aroma is quite nice with a great rye tinge to its hoppy tone of mildly citric pine and pithy-like attributes.

Flavors are quite alot better then what the aroma had to offer as its lentghy tone and immediate grab of rye bite and solid creamy malt backing make for a nice treat off the front end. Snappy, crunchy, crisp, zippy, high toned and pitched in a wonderful rye tone. Finishes well and long with a firm bitterness lending pithy grapefruit and lemonyness twisted with a pine slice that creates a tremedously fine finish.

Solid medium body with all sorts of fine tuned ryeness crunching, pinching, and crisping things up right from the get go. Stays fairly smooth as its well-balanced sweetish pale bready malt carries its weight until the finish which vents its hoppy side with a welcome lengthy tone and bite of mild yet grabbing bitterness.

First glass went down with an amazing eease, second glass was just as good, but took a bit longer as that rye bite mixed with the hops tended to slow me down a bit. But this is some damn yummy brew. Rye PA speaks mightily of Bob the brewers talents!
