A full bodied dark stout with smooth malt characteristics topped off with a slightly roasted finish. Mellow, earthy hop flavors pair perfectly with the dark malt profile to leave you begging for more.

A very taste stout, much better than I expected...

...and much more a flavor of coffee than I expected as well. Great looking beer - about as perfectly black as you can get. The smell was all malt with strong notes of coffee and hints of chocolate. All of this translating relatively well to the taste. Mouthfeel is crisp, slightly creamy, and full-bodied. Overall, a very solid beer and I'm glad I left it for one of the last out of their variety pack.

Super solid stout that has a heavy but bright stout taste to it. The malt isn’t too roasted, with a nice frothy head. I don’t get the earthy flavors, but nice caramel taste with a little bit of tangy appeal to the back end. Moderate mouthfeel that is a true no extra filler stout. I would definitely recommend this to someone that enjoys an honest stout.

12oz bottle PKGD 083119 poured into a tulip glass at fridge temp 6.5% ABV 54 IBU. The beer pours dense black with mocha brown head. The head recedes to a thin cap and leaves a few spots of lacing. The aroma is dark chocolate. The taste is semisweet dark chocolate with earthy, tangy roasty bitterness throughout. The mouthfeel is medium plus bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good. Not flawed in any way and just good, not great.

Jet-black body capped with a thick, creamy head. Well-balanced dark grain aroma with an element of milk chocolate. The taste follows along the lines of the smell; sweet dark chocolate and cocoa; roasted grain flavors; a bit nutty; mild bitterness. Heavy body; smooth and slick on the palate; creamy with a heavy sweetness throughout.

A well-balanced beer, rich and flavorful, bringing a tasty depth and enjoyment to the palate.

12oz bottle served in a Libby globe porter/stout glass. Packaged 11/08/18.

Appearance: Very dark brown letting only a little light through at the edges, a cola brown where the light came through. Thin light tan ring of foam with some occasional islands and strands of lacing.

Smell: Roasted malt, chocolate, some woody notes.

Taste: Roasted malt throughout, some chocolate and black coffee flavor, mild smoky flavor to the finish that combines with some leafy bitterness to come across as mildly like tobacco.

Mouthfeel: Good thickness, prickly carbonation.

Overall / Drinkability: A nice American stout with a good emphasis on the roasted malt. I don't know if it exactly lives up to its name and label, but the flavor profile works nicely. This would pair really well with meat and probably some desserts as well. I would not mind having another one - very drinkable.

My New Super Michigan Beer Bowl Sunday (Week 728) is rolling along nicely. I have been asked to leave Holland, but since Douglas is only about 30 minutes away, south on I-196, that is where I am headed next!

From the Bottle: "Made in Michigan".

I was really starting to feel it as I skidded into the parking lot with Smokey the Bear hot on my heels! I keep a number of plates stacked up on my front & rear bumper so I simply took off the topmost ones (front & rear as this ain't PA), threw them atop a passing semi & sauntered in for a beer.

As always, it begins with a Pop! of the cap. The locals watched, aghast & agape, as I performed a quick, no-holds-barred C-Line pour. It puffed up in the midst of a pseudo-cascade & just as suddenly stopped. 8=) THIS is how I like to spend my NBS Sundays! Man, the two-plus fingers of dense, rocky, foamy, deep, dark-brown head was about as dark & impressive as any in my (at least, recent) memory. Color was so Black/Opaque (SRM = 44), that I almost felt like I need not look for light penetration. In the interest of completeness, I gave it a futile shot. Nothing doing or happening, Nose had a very pleasant coffee dark roastiness. Mmm. I have been drinking coffee almost daily for over 35 years. The scent is always welcome. Mouthfeel was full & thick, as though a dollop had been scooped onto my tongue! I allowed it to roll around like a sleek, slick seal, playfully washing around as the locals continued to air-breathe. The taste was roasty with a charcoal/baker's chocolate/black coffee bitterness. Bitter, my friends, is GOOD! Bitter is why I first converted to hops. Bitter is unadulterated coffee. Bitter is inedible (on its own) baker's chocolate. Bitter is why I get up in the morning. This may have been darker than my soul (but who's measuring?), but it brought me full-circle & ready for a lie-down before today's SBLIII party. Finish was bitter & dry, but don't let that scare you off. This was an eminently drinkable AS.

This is a re-visit for me since I had it last year around the same time. It is such a solid stout that it is one that I could keep drinking again and again. It has a sweet and smooth quality with what I feel is sort of a nice chalky kind of feel. The main flavors are coffee, dark chocolate, grain and roasty bitterness on the end that lingers. This is one of my favorite stouts that are out right now. I got the stout sampler pack and it is highly recommended since everything in it is great.
