I'd never heard of Saugatuck Brewing Company before running into this bottle randomly at Goodrich's. Bomber. Blonde Ale...why not?

Suffice to say, I'm extremely impressed by this offering and I'm going to be looking for more by these folks in the future. Beautiful beer all the way around: straw yellow pour with plenty of carbonation. The beer and the aroma are both smoothly malty with a tang that I think is either paradise seed or lemon (possibly both) and a slight woody sour tang at the finish. Fairly complex but not overly so; enough interesting elements to result in a real winner, particularly for the style (which I always keep in mind when I'm rating).

For the style of beer this is about tops of my list. It has enough character to draw you in, but is still smooth drinking, and I could easily see throwing back a few of these sitting on the beach in June.

Pours brilliant gold with 1” white foam cap that dissipates to film A touch of skunk on the nose but after a few swirls most of the skunk goes away and you pick up some malt. It’s actually rich and malty with a fruit touch sweetened by light caramel. Barely discernable mild hop bitterness. Medium light body and medium carbonation. Nothing special.

The brew itself is a dark gold color, bright and polished. The head, pure white, is too spritzy to keep up for long. It makes the effort, but fades fast, leaves just a little, and deposits light spotting.
Malts are dry in the nose, crackery and wheat-like, with a musty earth quality and fruity sort of sweetness. A faint hint of leaf offers a light counter.
The taste still has the dry malts, which go grainy into the middle, the dusty earth filling in from front to back, and the sweetness going more like honey. A little bitterness eases into the finish.
The body is light but crispness keeps up the impression of firmness. It comes to feel a little thinner in the middle, but finishes well with a lingering semi-dryness and light bitterness following through with the sweetness.

Got this one in a mixed sixer for a Christmas gift

A- hazy gold yellow with moderate carbonation and little to no lacing. Appears pretty mediocre.
S- It honestly smells like an adjunct lager. Has a metallic smell with traces of corn and a hint of orange zest. Nothing worth remembering
T/M- Has a sweet light malt body with a hint of orange zest barely coming through. A corn like adjunct flavor is present. The mouthfeel is light in the body ending with a sweet, dry ending.

Overall- This is my second time having this beer. The first time I had it on tap it was awful, this time I found it much more enjoyable. Don't get me wrong it is a very mediocre beer that does little to make me want to seek it out. However, it is surprisingly drinkable and would make a descent summer/lawnmower beer.

This is a very ordinary blonde ale.

Label is printed "130115 693" in the upper right corner, possibly a best by date of "01-15-13".

Pours a hazed bright orange that reflects a good amount of light. Initial head of a fingers width or so, that rises and falls quickly before the first sip. Not much coverage, a bare thread of skim around the edge is all that's left after the first couple sips.

Smell is yeasty and sulfuric at first, becoming sweet and grainy afterward with a light hint of apple.

Flavor is straightforward and simple, crackers from the malt, apples from the yeast, dry floral note from the hop addition. Body is lightly astringent with medium carbonation and a slight slickness to it. Overall a passable beer for a summer bbq, but a rainy November afternoon calls for something different.

Poured from a 22 ounce bottle into a cervoise. ABV is printed on the label as being 5%. Gushed out of the bottle and sprayed my computer when I opened it. WAY overcarbonated!

Appearance: Solid layer of white foam. Slightly hazy amber body with good carbonation. Good head retention.

Smell: Spicy yeast and actually some alcohol. I'm surprised I got alcohol in the aroma considering it's supposedly only 5%abv.

Taste: Pretty good, but bland. The taste is mainly comprised of the yeast. Some hop bitterness.

Appearance: The body is pure gold with moderate carbonation that produces a thick white head that quickly dies down leaving a trace of lace.

Smell: Clean malt with a slight perfume of berries..

Taste: A clean malty flavor with a slight bitterness of the hops. There is also a sweet floral note that hits in the middle.

Mouthfeel: The heavy carbonation gives this beer body that most blonde ales miss.

Overall: A very refreshing and full flavored beer. Most beers in this style lack anything of interest but the brewers at Saugatuck kept this on interesting.

Poured from a bottle into a standard pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a clear golden color with a finger of fluffy white head that fades quite quickly.

Smell: Very mild smell, but what I am picking up is some malt.

Taste: Mild malt, not very sweet but there is a hint of grape. The finish has a very mild bitterness to it.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with tingly carbonation. The finish isn't really remarkable.

Overall: There isn't anything bad about this beer, but it isn't really remarkable in any way either. A bit boring.

Straight up golden yellow with a big old white foamy head that fizzes away pretty quick. nose is pretty malty but the same malt character gives way to some bitterness. I'm a little surprised that this beer has as much body as it does. Fairly decent finish for a good yet utilitarian beer.
