On tap at Fishbones in Detroit. Pours an amber color, mild clarity; the beer arrived with nearly no head at all except for a tiny, tiny collar around the very edge of the glass. Smell is upfront with the traditional hop-citrus combo; piney, herbal, and a bit spicy with oranges and grapefruit being the easiest fruits to pick out. Taste is no surprise, thanks to the aroma. Hop flavors crash first; pines, dry grass, leafy and herbal, with a slight peppery spice that starts off like it's going to be a problem, but then quickly shows itself to the background. The sweetness comes through a little while after to try and combat the hops. Oranges, grapefruit, and maybe a touch of pineapple. Slight caramel flavor from the malt, but far from heavy by any means. Medium body, pretty average amount of carbonation.
I enjoyed this beer, but I feel like it does nothing to really stand out in front of the vast majority of other IPAs out there. At a place that serves mainly BMC products on tap, this was a great choice. But in a store filled with hundreds of other beers, I'd probably never bother to revisit this one.

This is my first experience with Saugatuck brewing and I must say I was pleasantly surprised. The beer pours a handsome orange copper hue with a generous white head that gives way to a decent amount of lacing and a thick resinous white film. The aroma is very piney and citrusy, reminiscent of good west coast ipas. The flavor delivers exactly what the nose foretold. Lots of hoppy bitterness up front followed by a mild malty sweetness and finishing with an awesome coating of bitterness. All in all not the greatest ipa I've had and nothing that stands out from hundreds of other offerings but a damn good and easy drinking ale none the less.
