A: Deep dark licorice black with 2 fingers of solid, dark brown head that leaves nice lacing.

S: Lots of cocoa, dark chocolate and just a touch of strawberry.

T: I taste a lot of strong chocolate and toasted malts. Very light strawberry on the back. Some bitterness.

M: Full bodied, nice and thick without quite turning into syrup.

O: A nice chocolate stout with some strawberry undertones. Fair warning, this stuff gave me a terrible headache. Might just be me.

Pours black and viscous with a thin, light brown head that hints at overcarbonation for a stout. Smells of dark toffee and a bit of pine perhaps. Carbonation up front on sip, but gives way quickly to thick body. Strong alcohol flavoring with hints of raisin or prune and chocolate malt. Well balanced. Carbonation does come in a bit at the end. No bitterness in the finish. Taste lingers well on the tongue for several seconds after.

Ahhh....been waiting to try this one a while. In December this one was promised in a trade, but the trade never happened. In January I attempted to bring one from Mich to MN for a tasting, but improperly muled the beer and it was confiscated by mulleted, unsmiling TSA guards. Fortunately in February I was able to get another bottle. No more fucking around, this one goes down the hatch right here, right now.

Pour is a deep brown with a meringuey, malt colored head. Should be noted, I was drinking this from a shitty plastic hotel water cup. A Duvel tulip it ain't. Aromatically, chocolate shows up with a note that vanilla and strawberry will be along later. Actually, they never show up. It's mostly chocolate, a pleasant baseball malt-cup sensation.

Vanilla and strawberry to make an appearance in taste. Choc, vanilla, and very subtle strawberry all come over you in very short order. Impressive. The strawberry is a little false, but it's still a tasty drink.

Thick and coagulating the way a milk stout should. Pour might have been a little rough and done the mouthfeel some favors.

Wow. Saugatuck is really a tier-3 Michigan brewery that I've had before but in general not paid much mind to. But this here is a winner that makes me think differently about them. Right on the cusp of A/A-. I am sure this is seasonal, but they've really hit on something and should make it more readily available.

Bottle. Looks good; black with a litttle lacing. Smells good too; chocolate and malt. Solid taste. Chocolate, vanilla, and strawberries. Mouthfeel is great; super-smooth and creamy. Overall, a great brew that I'll definitely be buying more of in the future.

A - Pours very dark brown with two fingers of brown head. Head has very good retention and leaves some good lacing behind.

S - Strawberry is the first aroma to jump out at me, quickly followed by vanilla and then a big chocolate presence. Chocolate has some semi-sett and bittersweet elements to it. Definitely seems like they got what they were going for here.

T - Chocolate leads of the taste, with an interesting hop presence and a bite of carbonation. Strawberry and vanilla are more in the background of the taste compared to the smell, but they are there. Finishes with a bitter chocolate taste.

M - Medium mouthfeel with some creaminess, some lively carbonation and finishing with some dry bitterness.

O - This was pretty enjoyable, all of the neapolitan elements come together pretty well. Not something I would want very often, but I would have this again.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Thanks to chpueblo22 for this bottle.

Appearance - It's tough for a stout to fail to look good, but this one manages it. Almost no head as it pours. No lacing. No bubbles. Mostly dark body and... nothing else.

Smell - Lactose aroma, a bit of chocolate, and some faint strawberry. I don't get the vanilla, but otherwise it's not bad.

Taste - Quite nice, actually. Chocolate malt, a hint of lactose, and then a nice taste of strawberry that I think integrates nicely. The finish is a bitter burnt chocolate, but it isn't offensive.

Mouthfeel - Well it's damn near flat, but I didn't notice until I started thinking about it. I have about 1/2 inch left in my glass as I get to mouthfeel. Easy to drink despite the lack of carbonation, so I won't peg it back.

Overall - I was hesitant about this one. A neapolitan milk stout sounds about as bad as it could get, but this tastes pretty damn good. Quite enjoyable and something I would definitely like to drink again.

I was lucky enough to have this beer on nitro-tap at Butch's in Holland,MI.
A = Great, deep, dark brown color with really nice thick head on top of the glass. Beer laced the pint glass like none I've ever seen as it was drank.
S = The smell of the beer was exactly as advertised! Smelled like chocolate mostly but the strawberry and vanilla came through much nicer in this nitro version. The strawberry was very pronoune up front and the vanilla was a rich creamy note just hidden a bit by the other two aromas.
T = The beer tasted like a bowl of Neapolitan ice cream! Enough said. For an experimental style done as a winter seasonal it tastes like the great ice cream it's named after.
M = Mouthfeel was big, creamy, rich. Stayed nice and thick on the mouthfeel after the beer was swallowed.
O = Keeping the stout style in mind is evident as the beer finishes like a nice traditional sweet stout... A real treat! Really like this beer a lot. One of the best winter seasonal beers available anywhere! Got to drink it while it lasts.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

a - pours dark brown with a thin cap of tan head that calms to a film pretty fast. leaves a few legs of lacing in this glass.

s - mostly milk chocolate, but there is a hint of artificial strawberry and vanilla.

t - artificial strawberry flavor over a chocolate malt base. has a bitterness like burnt coffee on the back of the tongue and a weird chemical aftertaste.

m - medium in body and very creamy. adequate carbonation.

o - would be great, but the chemical flavors kinda ruined this one for me. i wish they had brewed this with real strawberries and aged it on vanilla beans instead of using a bunch of flavorings. probably not returning to this one.

Neapolitan pours a very dark brown with a medium tan head. The head fades quite quickly, but it does leave fairly nice lace.

The aroma is rich and roasty with plenty of cocoa and milky sweetness. It smells just like a rich milk stout should, but it is also spiked with a nice strawberry aroma that does not smell like it could have come from actual fruit, but is pleasant none the less.

The flavor is just as rich as the aroma with bitter cocoa, coffee, vanilla and a subtle strawberry flavor. The stout is nice and sweet, making it seem even more rich.

The mouthfeel is on the fuller side of medium with a rich smoothness to it. Carbonation is good for style and the finish is roasty with notes of vanilla.

Overall this is a pretty tasty beer and a nice twist on the style. It loses some points for the use of artificial flavorings, but they worked fairly well in this beer. I would definitely think about getting this brew again.

Saugatuck's Neapolitan Milk Stout looks like a stout should, with a dark brown body and tightly packed bubbles that form a nicely sized brown head.

The aroma is surprisingly sweet, with cream, strawberry and chocolate all included. It didn't even occur to me that this stuff was modeled after the ice cream until I smelled it, but I definitely realized it after my first whiff. Maybe I'm a little slow, but unexpected surprises are always nice.

This beer tastes like the ice cream. It's good. I don't really pick up any vanilla flavor, it is more of a creamy or milk flavor. The middle has a pronounced strawberry flavor, and dark chocolate rounds things out. I think the components are about equal, but the strawberry is probably a little more pronounced than the other two. It's pretty sweet, and there is almost a little bit of tartness to it, but that might be going too far.

The mouthfeel is a little light, but the carbonation is well done.

I'm surprised how much I liked this beer, it's pretty good. I might have to help myself to a couple more from my buddy's fridge when I am over there next. Whether you like this beer or not, it will be both unique and memorable.

12 oz. bottle.

Garnet-tinged dark brown body. Pinkie finger of creamy, dark khaki head. Nice lacing. Smells pretty Neapolitan to me! Notes of dark chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, and even some fruity berries (strawberries, sure, why not?).

Flash of roasted malt up front. Sweet mix of dark fruits, caramel, and milk chocolate quickly follow. Definitely shows some berry/strawberry flavors (but they aren't cloyingly sweet). Hints of vanilla, tobacco, and peat as well. Light coffee bitterness gets a bit lost in the fruity, chocolatey sweetness. Lingering berry in the finish. Medium-full body with a slightly chewy feel. Very well executed and it is what it says it is! Very impressed!

Pours near black, no head or lacing.

Chocolate and dark roasted coffee in the smell.

There is a lot of chocolate up front with small hints of vanilla and strawberry. A nice coffee like bitterness comes in at the end.

Fairly smooth in the mouth but not as much as some other milk stouts.

This is a solid offering and was worth the try.
