Waxed 22oz bomber share courtesy of RateBeer's one and only dcschiller, thanks Dave. It pours with a clear amber to copper colored body that supports an off white head. The aroma offers up plum juice, plum meat, cherries and raisins mixed with molasses and then moving into more estery notes in the form of prunes blended with boozy heat at the end of the draw. The taste is smooth and sweet with molasses and then notes of brown sugar, raisins, prunes and cherries. It ends with a dash of malt sweetened roasted malts and then booze. Really nice smooth rich sipper where the barrel component is very light and wasn’t missed. Wow, listed as an American Barleywine on this site? Stunning ignorance or what . . . Very very English barleywine here.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a clear copper with a foamy tan head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace slowly drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of malt, caramel, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with malt, caramel, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that has a slightly better barrel aged presence in the smell.

Bottle absconded by Sahsa from Grg1313's awesome tasting (which I missed). Swing it baby.

A: Red waxed bomber pours brown with a thin tan head leaving spotty lace.

N: Vinous, grainy, woody.

T: Follows nose with prominent wood and vinous notes.

M: Medium body and semi-moderate carbonation. Finishes faintly tart, woody and vinous.

O: Interesting, but would not expend much effort to seek out.

I was expecting this beer to be very good, but was disappointed. I know others have found it to be very good because currently a 3.94 on Untappd. I had a different experience than others, but wanted to make sure this beer was added. I think that with time it will get better, but right now it lacked backbone, but had kind of a harsh finish. Maybe I got a bad bottle or had an off taste bud day. Either way, I'll come back and review this when I've let it cellar for a year or so.
