We stopped here at a fruitless search for a parking space at the beach on the fourth of July weekend. The entrance was bright and inviting with some outside tables. Unfortunately, there was nothing to see but the busy highway. In any event it was hot that day and we ate inside. The beer offerings were written on an easily seen chalkboard by an upscale looking bar. Our waitress quickly got our ales, but waiting for the food was a little slow. The offerings included a hoppy pale ale, American IPA, a seasonal blonde ale and an Irish ale. Our appetizer was a spinach artichoke dip with crawfish. The dip had a generous amount of crawfish and was tasty enough to recommend. A couple of us got the "lucky dog" hotdog which was similar to a Chicago style dog. I ordered a "Irish dip" sandwich that was heaped with beef and cheese. The menu also included a red snapper and steaks. Typical for a tourish area, the food and beer were pricy. The hoppy American Pale ale met the standard, but not much more. I cannot vouch for all the ales, but this place is worth trying for the food alone.

I've never understood the "halo effect". That's where opinions are offered based on other positive reviews, and tend to bias up. There is no way this place is statistically "outstanding" Beer Advocate. On a crowded Saturday evening, we were seated and served almost immediately. Very good service.
Being committed beer drinkers, we pretty much know exactly where to start, but the waitress was sort of clueless in her guidance. That's fine because, again, we know what we think we want. I have a very difficult time NOT finishing a beer and I fought the IPA as hard as I could...to no avail. I just could not choke the entire thing down. Cloying, uncalibrated bitterness at the back end with zero appropriate aroma and thin mouthfeel. Well, IPAs are not everyone's thing so we tried a mixed flight (which seems like a good deal at $12/6 tasters). I thought the IPA was poorly constructed, but that did not prepare me for the "ESB/Amber" or the Irish Red, or their flagship Pale. All were out of balance messes. We just could not finish any of the tasters. I understand that a place can have an off night, but not entirely across the board.
This is a shame because the place was nice and had a real locals feel. Which is even more odd because you would think there would be some educated palates in an artsy little town in Michican. Sorry.
