the only thing i didn't like about cubby's, was the fact that it is a sports bar and therefore there are MANY tv's going on all the time with each one on a different channel. they have a pretty decent beer selection. of course, what they sell most of is the macro-brews, but they also carried some porters, stouts and tasty ales. be warned, this bar is very noisy, particulary on the weekends when the tv's are going along with music and the chattering of the crowds. its a popular place in brookings and the place will get packed on a saturday night. it's decorated with alot of memorabilia about the chicago cubs and chicago bears and if you're a fan of these teams you're gonna like it.

Cubbys is a restaurant located in downtown Brookings. Easy to find as Brookings is not that large of a town, just take Highway 14 (or 6th St) east and turn south on Main and go two blocks on the right hand side.
No they dont root for the Chicago Cubs, although Cubbys is still a sports bar. One of the better locations in the beer-dry waste land of east South Dakota. They had about 12 taps, which only 4 are macro, and a good variety of bottles. Leinenkugels is very popular but Schell, Summit and Boulevard, and Sam Adams seasonal are also available. Interesting notes, Duvel and another Belgium style beer (can't remember) were available in bottles.
The food was good. The staff was friendly and prompt. The waitress was very busy but that didnt stop her from taking care of us. Although the staff, including the bartender, was not good on advice or beer info. The food was pretty good. Mostly American and Southwest style, they had a good selection and did a good job with presentation and taste. The price was relative to any generic burger joint but nothing too expensive. They did have beer specials, but really just for the macros. Did I mention this was a small town?
So if you are stuck in Brookings, Cubbys is not bad. But I wouldnt suggest to go out of your way to come here.
