Poured from 750 mL bottle into snifter.
A: Pours a dark cola brown with 1-2 inch bubbly light tan head with good retention.
S: Soft caramel malt, herbal/grassy hops, and a hint of brown sugar and dark dried fruits.
T: Dark dried fruit (esp. raisin), brown sugar, soft caramel malt, and subdued spicy hops.
M: Medium body. Soft and sweet. A bit of mustiness in the finish.
D: A very nice example of style. Quite sessionable. Not too complex, but solid in what it brings to the table.

750ml swingtop.

Color is very dark red with a thick tan head. Good retention, a thick ring remains with some lace. Smells of dark fruits, caramel and bread with some tartness and red grapes.

Taste brings good caramel, toasted bread, chocolate malts with abundant dark fruit. Still some faint fruity tartness, earthiness and general farmy/yeasty/saison-type notes. Mouthfeel is perhaps a bit on the foamy side but overall fine.

Kind of a cross between a very tame Flanders red, a brown ale and a saison, kind of peculiar but a well-executed and interesting beer. The flavor seems like it could use more complexity but it does have a good amount of depth in the taste and scent.

A- Poured from a flip top 750ml to a tulip glass. Dark brown bodied with a one finger light tan cap. Head retention is pretty good and the texture of the cap is foamy and thick. Nice patches of lace cascade down the glass.

S- Dark Belgian candi sugar comes to mind and the aroma brings notes of dark brown sugar, figs, prunes, cherry and rum raisins.

T- Seems like this bottle has some age on it but not too much, just some oxidation and old caramel coming to mind at first. Getting past that the brew brings rich notes of raisins, rum, tobacco, toasted bread and grains, Belgian yeast spice and some sweetness. Dark bitter cocoa in th finish.

MF- Moderately thick bodied with a superb texture somewhere between foamy and creamy, smooth for this style. Carbonation is high but feels like a soft pillow on the palate. Spicy bitterness in the finish.

Some age on it but it doesn't bother me at all in this case and adds a nice complexity to a big fruity dark Belgian. All of those dark dried fruits come to mind but nothing is out of control or off putting.

750ml flip top bottle served in a Southern Tier tulip

A - Pours a dark ruby brown great clarity with a sandy frothed head. Collar starts thick but turns tin with zero lacing.

S - Brown sugar, cooked pears, burnt caramel malts, soapy/spicy/floral hops, cocoa powder, toasted dark bread, alcohol.

T - Very deep malts, charred caramel, general dark fruit, dark chocolate breads, floral hops hit on the outside edges along with vanilla and notions of cocoa. It's sweet but there is a grassy/alcohol like dryness to it that builds into the crisp finish.

M - Moderate cola carbonation, medium body, slick feel with the carbonation racing to the top even when swished around. The alcohol starts showing up more as it warms thinning out the body. Finishes crisp.

I really liked the aroma, complex and changing. This beer does a serious shift from cold to warm. The alcohol starts light and spicy when cold and moves into bulldozing everything when allowed to warm.
Very interesting for the style and in general. It seemed to have Belgian influences. Pick this up if you see it around.

Acquired this bottle at the Festival in Portland. Looks nice , dark brown with a light foamy head which doesn't hang around long, but the smell is amazing. Sweet malts, molasses, brown sugar, honey, brown bread and maybe a bit of chocolate...I can't get my nose out of the glass! Taste is just as it smells, but now with some caramel and a bit of toffee, nicely balanced sweetness with very slight hoppiness and spice at the end. I didn't know what to expect from a French Belgian, but really enjoyed this beer and would definitely have again.
