From the perspective of a West Coast visitor, it's the best beer bar in town. Located right in the heart of Fell's Point, it's a large rustic beer hall with lots of great beer memorabilia. They had a fairly long bar with a well diversified inventory of taps, featuring several regional beers. The beer list just went on and on. It's impressive what they keep on hand in their huge refrigerator. Beers from everywhere, and some very good Belgians too. We didn't eat there, but in retrospect, maybe we should have. Crabby Dick's across the street was a complete disaster. I can't believe we left such great service and beer at Max's on Broadway only to walk across the street for a crab dinner and service nightmare.
We enjoyed the humor of the bartender. She was not only friendly and efficient, she was fun and loved to joke around. One of their t-shirts read, "You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning." This is a place you could spend many hours enjoying the good beer and service. The patrons were all very friendly.

Atmosphere: This place is rustic and filled with more beer paraphernalia than you can imagine. Signs, mirrors, quotes, tap handles, pictures, and displays. Just shy of cluttered, but brings a beer-orientated ambiance.
The layout is a high point with several different bars inside. The main bar when you walk in is the largest and probably the most generic. Plenty of light plays on the wooden interior. Towards the back of the downstairs theirs an area I’ll refer to as a ‘nook’, much more private with a much smaller bar. This area is low light and quite intimate. The upstairs houses yet another bar, but is split into two deck areas. The floor plan is slightly more open and seems more European than the main bar.
Atmosphere overall reminds me of Delirium Café in Brussels
Service: Bartenders seemed flustered, but that is to be expected during the festival. The ordering strategy was 3-4 oz samples ordered with flight cards. From what I could gather, everyone seemed friendly as they could be and knowledgeable as well.
Selection: My experience was during the Belgian Beer Festival. The quality was impeccable. The amount of beers on tap including the bottle selection was unbelievable. This is Max’s strong suit.
Value: The flight style samples were all $3.50 regardless of the beer, which afforded the ability to taste a lot of world-class beers. Overall, this place is at the pinnacle of the beer drinking experience. If you find yourself anywhere even remotely close, stop by.

A low key bar in Fells that has one of the best selections in the city. Getting a beer can be a bit of a task at times depending on the business level. I personally recommend walking or taking a cab if your visiting from out of town as parking can be challenging.

Great place, however The fat bald bartender is the worst bartender I've ever encountered. Rude Disgusting. Fire him and this place is awesome.
Great beer selection. Fun crowd. Great location. Avoid the bald bartender with glasses. He is rude and obnoxious and gives this place a bad name.
