Went to Baltimore for a conference and I said to my buddy, we must go to Max's Taphouse. Let me tell you, after hearing so much about this place, it lived up to all the hype. I never saw so much beer in one place. DFH 120 on tap, are you kidding me! They had to have close to 200 bottles of brew in the refrigerators behind the bar, maybe 40-50 taps? We arrived around 1:30 in the afternoon, so we had the place much to ourselves, and we started drinking. Allagash,Duvel Red,Green on tap, Stone 13 Anny on tap, Ruination, I could go on and on. Had a big plate of mussels which were awesome. Five hours later we left, totally beered out. Good thing we took a cab.. I'm kicking myself in the ass for leaving the tap and bottle list on the bar when we left, so I can't remember everything the two of us drank. All I can say, if you go to Baltimore, this is a must stop if you love beer.

Atmosphere: This place is rustic and filled with more beer paraphernalia than you can imagine. Signs, mirrors, quotes, tap handles, pictures, and displays. Just shy of cluttered, but brings a beer-orientated ambiance.
The layout is a high point with several different bars inside. The main bar when you walk in is the largest and probably the most generic. Plenty of light plays on the wooden interior. Towards the back of the downstairs theirs an area I’ll refer to as a ‘nook’, much more private with a much smaller bar. This area is low light and quite intimate. The upstairs houses yet another bar, but is split into two deck areas. The floor plan is slightly more open and seems more European than the main bar.
Atmosphere overall reminds me of Delirium Café in Brussels
Service: Bartenders seemed flustered, but that is to be expected during the festival. The ordering strategy was 3-4 oz samples ordered with flight cards. From what I could gather, everyone seemed friendly as they could be and knowledgeable as well.
Selection: My experience was during the Belgian Beer Festival. The quality was impeccable. The amount of beers on tap including the bottle selection was unbelievable. This is Max’s strong suit.
Value: The flight style samples were all $3.50 regardless of the beer, which afforded the ability to taste a lot of world-class beers. Overall, this place is at the pinnacle of the beer drinking experience. If you find yourself anywhere even remotely close, stop by.

A low key bar in Fells that has one of the best selections in the city. Getting a beer can be a bit of a task at times depending on the business level. I personally recommend walking or taking a cab if your visiting from out of town as parking can be challenging.

Great place, however The fat bald bartender is the worst bartender I've ever encountered. Rude Disgusting. Fire him and this place is awesome.
Great beer selection. Fun crowd. Great location. Avoid the bald bartender with glasses. He is rude and obnoxious and gives this place a bad name.
