Ordered this at de Beyerd at Breda, The Netherlands.

A: Thick head that stayed for a minute or 2. Then a tiny head foam lacing stayed on the beer till it was finished. Color was deep amber. Just a tiny tiny bit of carbonation.

S: A whole arrange of dark fruit (plums, figs) and some chocolate.

T: Tastes of malts, dried fruit and toffee. A touch of medicinal in the end. Nice, not overwhelmingly, alcoholic aftertaste.

M: Quite a medium to full body overall. Creamy and round taste in the beginning. A bit of carbonation present.

O: Quite enjoyed the beer. Had it as a finishing beer of a drinking session. I'd recommend it to friends who enjoy bock beers.

Serving type: on-tap

Bottled in 2010, best by 12/2012.

Purchased through Cracked Kettle, Netherlands

Price - $4.71 US

Appearance: Pours a deep, deep amber color with a quick fading head. Spotty lacing like on a cheatah.

Smell: Sweet with dark fruit, raisins, plums and grapes. A hint of smokiness due to the roasted malts.

Taste: Quite smokey with a layer of sweetness followed by some bitter hops. Alcohol is there but not full out at 11.5%.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat oily with a bitter feel and finishes dry.

Drinkability: Not bad but ones enough and I move on to the next victim. I don't know what it is but this certainly doesn't taste like a doppelbock style. WTF..

I have a few more bottles and will revisit this again after some aging to see if it's changed.

Today was the day to crack this one open. I waited for a good moment because the brewer (Kees Bubberman) told me I would love his one in particular. And yes, he has an idea about what I love in a beer.

A - A clear brown fluid with hardly no head, just a tiny foam lacing. There is no visible carbonation.

S - Chocolate, caramel, toffee and some booze and fruit. All scent are just faintly present though, but still very nice.

T - A real delight, toffee sweet upfront and chocolate, malts and some booze follow after it. A very good Bock! I want more!

M - The body is nice and medium thick, softly carbonated and the alcohol presence is lower than expected. In the finish kicks in some 'Emelisse' bitterness.

O - I am not a Bock fan, but this is something I can really appreciate. Specially the caramel tones, they come out nice. Thanks Kees for pointing this one out for me, I loved every sip.

Bottle: Poured a hazy brown color bock with a medium foamy head with light retention and no lacing. Aroma consists of caramelized sugar with notes of dry cereal. Taste is also a mix between some dry cereal notes and some light residual sugar notes. Body is a bit light for style with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Lacking body and sweetness with no interesting ester – not something I would seek again.
