I've been to Jake's several times now, tonight being the latest. While I've always been impressed with their beer selection (at least in bottles), tonight's was outstanding. I don't know what they had in bottles, but I had DFH 90 Min IPA and Chouffe IPA Tripel both on tap (the only IPA's they had on tap). In addition, they had Sam Adams Summer, Leinenkugel Honey Weiss, Pilsner Urquell, and a few other standards (Guinness, Amstel, etc) on tap. Bottles tend to be mostly craft and microbrews, with a few Ithaca, including their double IPA, Hennepin, Sierra Nevada, and others. The icing on the cake is that they use proper glassware (and we were warned when sitting outside tonight that they had to give us plastic cups instead of the proper glasses for the 90 Min and Chouffe).
The waitstaff is attentive, very friendly, super helpful, and all around superb. The atmosphere is very laid back. The food is great, especially the grilled cheese, and the bread pudding for dessert is excellent. Prices are slightly below average, the 90 Min and the Chouffe on tap were both $5 for the glass, when we were expecting $7.
All in all, Jake's is an awesome bar/restaurant. Highly recommended.

Jake's is a great little bar to hang out. The service is always friendly and attentive.
Jake's features a nice, inviting, clean atmosphere. It's normally on the darker, candlelit side.
They have an eclectic menu of tasty, well-priced food. I've never had a bad meal there. The appetizers are plentiful if you are going for a few pints and a snack.
Jake's has been doing a great job of expanding their beer selection. It's certainly a bit of an oasis on a street filled with macros. They have a decent array of popular locals and some of the more common imports. I wouldn't classify this as beer bar but they certainly make a great effort to expand the beer offerings for those with more refined palates.

Jake's was one of the first bars in Rhode Island to bring in Hoegaarden on tap a few years back, and that alone was able to keep me coming back- that along with no-cover rock n roll shows every Saturday night and eclectic DJs on Fridays. The food is also top notch and reasonably priced.
Now they've added some new beers to make it a sure BA stop when in Providence. Aside from the Hoe on tap, you'll also find the usual Stella, Sam, Harpoon, etc. But, the bottles include Duvel, Hennepin, Paulaner Hefe-Weizen, Paulaner Munich, Smuttynose IPA, Sam Smith and Brooklyn products. Most in the $3-4 range. Nice. Apparently, these are the summer selections and heavier beers will follow in the fall. Hopefully, this will up the ante in Providence and lead to more quality beer selection all around town.
