Beer added by: 80x2HopHead on 01-15-2014

Our spring seasonal offering brewed with 100 percent positive vibrations and single-hopped with Citra hops. The presence of the Citra hop is elevated by a clean fermenting lager yeast that allows the subtle Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts to lay a crisp, bready foundation. The citrus and tropical fruit character of the Citra hop comes from kettle additions followed by a huge dose of ‘em again in the fermenter.

Poured into a pilsner glass

A- pours a clear pale straw color with a huge foamy and rocky white head that has good retention, eventually leaving thick patches of lace behind

S- big dose of Citra hops on the nose with notes of grapefruit and grass. Underlying aromas of pilsner malt and toasted bread, very inviting aroma

T- perfect amount of Citra hops up front, with notes of grapefruit and orange. Classic pilsner malt flavor kicks in mid-palate, adding some toasted bread and yeasty flavors. The finish gives more Citra hop with a crisp toasted linger

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy/creamy mouthfeel and a smooth and crisp finish

O- now this is my ideal pilsner! Just enough of my favorite hop added to a classic pils flavor, while still maintaining a superior drinkability. If thus were available in my market, I'd drink it all spring (862 characters)

Pours a medium golden orange with a white foam that laces well. The aroma is bright with citrus being the standout. The taste has a grapefruit, unripe clementine orange flavor that is quite nice. Fair bitterness but this one is more quenching than palate-scorching. Medium bodied, well carbonated brew. Very nice product all in all. Reinventing the style, and it's delicious. (380 characters)

Iam really digging the "IPL' style I have to say.Pours a clear dull light golden with a lemon tinge to it,a full two finger bone white clingy head atop,a great pour. The aromas are just dripping with citra goodness, the grapefruit and fresh cut grass is just jumping out at me,a bit of lemon oil is also thrown in to the hoppy mix.Citrusy oily hops upfront on the palate with a nice crisp note in the finish, the hops don't really punch you in the face they just linger nicely.Probably the best of the style I have had to date,a great hopped up lager beer. (553 characters)

12oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Massive dense and rocky head, great stickage on the glass. Big citrus nose full of blood orange zest, passion fruit and lime pith ... some cracker-like maltiness within. Longer bitter but balanced bite from the hops, full on citrus flavor hits the palate sip after sip. Moderate body keeps things here real drinkable. Mild tobacco and tea tone in the hop flavor, dried grassy graininess opens up in the end.

They hit the bull's eye here, so damn drinkable with a very well rounded Citra hop character that does not even get catty ... not that a touch of that would be a bad thing. (623 characters)

Citra Mantra was good, but it wasn't my favorite. It may not be for me, but I like most of otter creeks stuff. (110 characters)

Growler poured into an english pint glass.

A - Pretty classic lager look. A straw color with a one finger head, lively carbonation, and strong lacing. Pretty beer.

S - Slightly vegetal at first. Then that gives way to the smell of the citra hops. I'm getting a lot of orange, grapefruit, lemon, and other citrus.

T - Citrusy hops that follow the nose up front and a little bready pilsner malt in the back ground.

M - Very clean finish with just a slight hint of bitterness.

O - Really happy I got to try this. Its one of the better hoppy lagers I've had. (563 characters)

A nice citra forward ipa . . . Uh, I mean ipl . . . Uh, I mean pale lager . . . Um, whatever this beer is classified as it doesn't matter. It's good, with a pleasant summer day aroma and flavors that are lemony, piney, grassy and bitter, it's a delicious citra beer. (266 characters)

Citra Mantra, wow Mike Gerhart (? spelling) has tamed the hops. Badass label of him levitating with citra hop buds in each palm. Since his early days with DFH, this guy has been making solid beer but after the recent hoppy beers Otter Creek has released one of them being a collaboration with Lawson's. Unfiltered golden body slightly hazed bright white head perfect keller style pils appearance, but dip your nares into this one and a tropical hop explosion goes off in your senses. Think dank mary jane, tropical fruit notes (mango/passionfruit), and grapefruit peel with just raw hops a bit of biscuit toned pils malt for a touch of perceived sweetness. Dry purely raucous hop expression, bitterness leaves resinous oils on the palate, hops are just tattooed on the palate light brush of biscuit malts, but this is a true hop monster. Only 55 IBUs but I perceive more hop flavor and bitterness than many maltier DIPAs that report 100 IBUs. Carbonation is perfect dead on, one of the best IPLs I've come across thus far in the beer journeys. Sign me up for a case of hops!!! Citra Mantra!!! (1,092 characters)

Wow! What a great beer. I wish they made this consistently in the spring-summer months. It's a very simple concept; a lager with a substantial amount of citra hops. If you like citra, you'll love this. Doesn't pack the malt/booze package that a citra IPA would. I would label this as a solid hop head lawnmower beer. You could knock back a six of this over a warm summer evening. Otter Creek should really be marketing this as a summer beer. (441 characters)
