Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: 80x2HopHead on 01-15-2014

Our spring seasonal offering brewed with 100 percent positive vibrations and single-hopped with Citra hops. The presence of the Citra hop is elevated by a clean fermenting lager yeast that allows the subtle Pilsner, Munich and Vienna malts to lay a crisp, bready foundation. The citrus and tropical fruit character of the Citra hop comes from kettle additions followed by a huge dose of ‘em again in the fermenter.

12/20/15 bottle date poured into a tall snifter glass. Look is a pale orange color with a nice 2 finger very white head but it dissipates quickly as is common with lagers. Aroma is all Citra hops and smells like a tropical sweet citrus bouquet that got me really excited to taste. Taste was very much all Citra, which in my taste is the best hop their is! Citrus upfront, tropical in the middle, but if there was 1 negative of this beer was the slight sourish not quite right finish which could be the lager malt and yeast not quite jiving with the Citra. Overall, I can not hate a beer that exudes the Citra hop but this one exudes it so it's excellent! 4.5 out of 5!

Pours a cloudy straw color with a huge fluffy white head, fades at a decent rate with a good amount of sticky lacing on the glass.

Smell has a decent citrus aroma with a slightly piney presence, ample amount of malt sweetness on the nose.

Taste is a bit like eating the rind of a lemon, it has some citrus flavor but also that odd bitterness, not quite hop bitterness but a bitterness nevertheless, the sweet malt helps balance things out, finishes semi-dry, soft but ample amount of carbonation.

Had at Barley Vine in Bristol, CT yesterday. Poured into a pint glass, bright gold color and clear with a small head. Really awesome aroma of the citra hops, big juice and slight herbal notes. Really inviting. Taste is good, too, strong citra throughout with relatively little bitterness. Some sweetness in the middle and it finishes a bit wet. Easy to drink and have another, the best I've had from Otter Creek so far.

This was a great sampler pack; I've enjoyed all four beers.
This particular beer is a hazy gold color with a small white head and a bit of lace.
Very citrusy.

On tap at Pinocchio's. Pretty good IPL. Nice and fresh, the hops were clean and citrusy in the nose and taste. Biscuity lager backbone made for good drinkability.

Wow, for a pale lager this stuff tastes amazing. Brewed w/ citra hops which are my fav. Unfiltered and very tasty. Easily my favorite lager to date. Great summer/bbq beer. Light and crushable but flavorful at the same time. What more can you ask for in a lager?!

At first glance, I was most ecstatic about this one in the variety pack. Love me some citra hops. But then I read the label and my heart sank, "Citra PILS LAGER!" I haven't came across a good IPL so my expectations dropped immensely. Thankfully, the sweet but not over-the-top hop bill came to the rescue.

Pours cloudy pale golden with tight thick stark white head

Smells strongly of lemons, grapefruit. No malt nose.

Tastes of clean bitterness dominate with mild citrus fruit and lingering bitter aftertaste. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel is light and effervescent with a good bit of carbonation

Very refreshing.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, bottled on 11/10/2014. Pours lightly hazy golden straw color with a 1 finger dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a dense cap that lasts. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, apricot, lemon zest, orange peel, light pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity of citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, apricot, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, mango, melon, apricot, lemon/orange peel, pine, cracker, bread, and herbal/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with a crisp malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Very clean on lager flavors with zero yeast notes present. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, and sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a awesome IPL style. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and light-moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bright orange with a big white head and some nice lacing. Big citrus and tropical nose with some light bread undertones. Citrus right up front bringing pulp juiciness and rind bitterness. Light crisp bite and some tropical notes push in and some mild malt sweetness hides underneath but stays out of the way and let's the hops push through. Crisp feel with nice carbonation and a dry finish and a bitter bite on the back end. Overall I loved this beer. Big IPA quality and flavor, crisp and dribkable. Really well done.

A: Pours a bright yellow color with 2 fingers of slowly fades down to a fairly thick cap that leaves a sheet of lacing down the glass

S: Very citrusy and fruity up front, with notes of the pilsner malt and a touch of pine and earth. Definitely citra-forward

T: Follows the nose. Bright citrus up front with notes of tropical fruits and hints of pilsner malt. Bitterness picks up mid-way and goes well into the finish, which is more of the citrus

M: Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: As advertised, a citra hop-forward pale lager with plenty of citrus and hoppy goodness. Very easy to drink given the sub-6% abv and a great spring seasonal. If you're into IPLs, definitely try this one out

A nice citra forward ipa . . . Uh, I mean ipl . . . Uh, I mean pale lager . . . Um, whatever this beer is classified as it doesn't matter. It's good, with a pleasant summer day aroma and flavors that are lemony, piney, grassy and bitter, it's a delicious citra beer.

Hazy, golden straw-colored appearance. Nice head retention and lacing. Hoppy aroma that's "clean" and bright. Not dank and pungent like some IPAs. Fruitiness and slight tropical notes are a giveaway that Citra is in use. The only problem I have is that the aroma is too subdued.

Lots of bitterness on the palate, but not a palate-shredder. Typical clean, crisp lager finish. Citric, even lemony, but not bone-dry. A touch of malt sweetness. Slick mouthfeel with carbonation that's a bit fizzy, but mostly soft.

A really nice hoppy lager, or "IPL" as it were. I've yet to try one that can match the flavor of a great IPA, but this is a tastier beer than many IPAs I've had.

This sets a standard when it comes to session IPAs.

12 oz bottle with Mike on the label doing his thing. Freshness date is there.

Pours a decent head with great retention and lacing. An explosion of citra hops, fruit and corresponding malt balance. Moderate alcohol so you can have a few more than a double IPA, especially since this tastes so good. IT's a must try for those who like IPAs with a strong hop presence but don't want to be overwhelmed by two drinks. Cheers.

Poured into Willy glass and enjoyed out on the deck on a warm afternoon. A beautiful golden-orange pour with a finger of tight pure-white head. Nice tropical and citrus aromas. Taste is really nice, some bready yeastiness with the sweet malt and fruity hops followed by a touch of the typical dankness of Citra. Mouthfeel is excellent.....crisp and refreshing. Overall, this is a great IPL, on par with Jack's Abbey offerings. I'm really looking forward to the mixed OC 12-packs this summer.

Look: poured out of a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Light and hazy with a really nice head.

Smell: Lemon and biscuits. Somewhat sweet.

Taste: Follows the nose with the lemon citrus and bready malt. Finishes with a very interesting sweetness that meshes alright with the hop bite. Almost a homebrew-tasting aftertaste, which is a little unpleasant.

Feel: very soft, maybe a little sticky towards the end though. Finishes dry.

Overall: So interesting. I really enjoyed it: starting with the mouthfeel and ending with that lager sweetness.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a standard pint glass. Moderate hand. Stamped 01 30 2015.

A: Slightly hazy, somewhat dull, pale golden body. 1.5 fingers of clean, white head. good retention. Nice lacing.

S: Citrusy hops with notes of lemon, grapefruit. Lightly floral. Cracker. Light bread.

T: Citrus-forward, floral hops open and persist throughout. Fairly dry finish. Light pilsner style malt backbone, but hops and their associated bitterness steal the show. Lingering pine and grapefruit zest bitterness in the aftertaste. Light alcohol presence.

M: Moderate carbonation with a medium body for a pilsner. Smooth, but also crisp.

O: Pretty nice. I'm a citra fan. Drank more like a light IPA or IPL. Direct, but well done.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pilsner glass.

Appearance: Pours a hazy straw with a big, thick white head. Lots of lacing as it goes down. Lots of carbonation.

Aroma: Big orange peel presence up front, with lots of fruit and pine, too.

Taste: Very tasty IPL-type lager. That orange rind, fruit, citrus, pine combo from the nose is there on the palate. Grapefruit, maybe guava. Some lager-like malt sneaks into the background.

Mouthfeel: The lager-like crispness makes this a pleasure to drink. Nice balance.

Overall: Otter Creek is doing some great stuff. This is a good example. BA has this ranked #2 among American pale lagers (to Hoponius Union), and I concur.

Very good ipa. This would be a junior of the great vermont ipa's. Not quite as juicy and fruity but close. It does lack a little on the nose but tastes great. If you love citra hops like I do search this one out.

A pleasant surprise, as Otter Creek underwhelmed me otherwise. Just enough citrus notes, but an easy drinker. Best when fresh, it seems to lose it's character rapidly.

Poured 12oz bottle into snifter glass. 5.75% abv.

Appearance- Dull, golden yellow with a fluffy two finger head. A good bit of haze to it.

Smell- Citrus aroma, with fresh orange peel. Sweet caramel malt as well.

Taste- Has a herbal citrus spiciness to it right from the start. The sweet, bready malt arent detected til midway in the flavor profile. Citrus,even with some pine and grapefruit on the back end,leave with quite a bitter finish.

Mouthfeel- Thin to medium and very crisp. Dry finish.

Overall- One hoppy lager here! The use of citra hops was more than clear. Could have used a bit more malt additions though for balance. Different though. Very sessionable as well.

Pours a slightly hazy gold color, left a fluffy white head that dissipated fairly quickly, leaves thick patches of lacing on the glass.

Smells like orange citrus, with some surprisingly noticeable bready notes.

Taste is a very robust hop bite, with some orange notes. Toasted malts take the middle with a very nice presence, then the bitterness comes back for the finish.

Medium bodied, crisp, medium carbonation.

A very good brew, can't say I've ever had an 'india style' pilsner before.

A: slight haze; medium gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a wispy cap; very nice lacing;

S: a little breadiness; a little dank, but this is really all about the citra;

T: citrus with tropical fruit behind it; a little dank as well; moderate bitterness on the ifnish;

M: medium bodied; crisp; very dry finish, but you have to wait a minute for it to kick in;

O: nice citra showcase;
