A big American pale ale overgrown with all the American hops we could dig up. Dripping with dank, American hop flavors and aromas, Overgrown is balanced by a subtle, sweet malt backbone that takes a back seat to the bountiful hop additions. A celebration of the hop-growing season, this one will tangle up your taste buds.

I love the pale malts and the suspension of hop particles floating in the glass, Mike Gerhart’s done wonders in the Brewmaster series. Hop Mantra, Kind Ryed, Fresh Slice, now this Overgrown APA, and next month I heard Double Dose DIPA collab with Lawson’s is coming back to the Burgh!!! Back to this beer slightly hazed deep golden hue with a bright white head formed nicely, some lacing left on the sides of the glass.

Aroma is popping with hops, citrus zest, with a deep mango tropical fruit note that’s just awesome. Even a touch of pear and papaya, deep herbal dank Mary Jane qualities arise in there two but the tropical fruit and citrus really shine and dominate. It’s honestly like candied hops, smells fan-fuckin’-tastic.

Flavor is great, the type of APA that if you tasted blind you would swear it was 1-2 percent alcohol higher and had the hopping rates of an IPA. It’s relatively tame in abv 5.5% abv and those 55 IBUs are seriously expressing some massive hop flavor and ample bitterness on the palate. Dank herbal bitterness, mild tropical fruit hop action a bit of pungent pine and resinous hop oils, this thing seriously has hop particles floating around.

Mouthfeel is a bit muddled, minor complaint the forced carbonation could be taken down a few notches…resinous hop oils lubricate things quite nicely. Way too easy to consume, it’s a great session APA for me I don’t care if it’s above 5%, it’s sessionable.

Overall, I feel blessed to get these new beers coming out of Otter Creek Brewmaster Mike’s kickin’ ass and taking names and delivering hop bombs with integrity and drinkability…I bought the case last night stopped by a friend’s house and gave him four bottles. We probably drank about a sixer of the case. Came home polished the rest of the 12 pack off woke up today craving the beer, I think I’m going to need another case!!! I think it’s comparable to Hop Mantra that’s basically how it went with that beer. Troeg’s Hop Knife is coming out in PA very soon, another beer I’m excited to try!!!

Golden Cloudy color to it.. The right alcohol percentage goes with this beer.. Pretty smooth.. Smooth hoppy taste.. Not an overwhelming smell to it... This beer is one of the better Otter Creek Beers I've had.. I think this beer should be rated in the top 250 in my opinion.. Cheers!!!

Nice looking beer. Big white head at first and plenty of scattered lacey strings around the glass as it fades. Color is pale gold with fine suspended particles throughout. Aroma is fresh grains, crackery malt, and grassy, brisk hops. Spicy and lightly fruity with citrus rind, some mystery berries, and something tropical that intensifies as it warms. Taste is sweet, then citrus rind bitter, spicy coniferous, and dry all over. The bitterness lingers after each sip... This is a pretty solid beer and you should give it a try.

Poured from the bottle.....

A - Yellow in color with a lot of sticky lace, retains well throughout consumption, some floating sediment

S - Big time grapefruit and orange, the nose is awesome on this

T - Lots more of the same from the nose, pretty dank and bitter, grass and some pine, very well balanced

M - Medium feel, light carb, nice bite on the palate

O - Fantastic stuff. Otter Creek gets better with every beer they make. This is a really well crafted, balanced APA. Great job

Bottle purchased at Nathaniel Square Corner Store.

Pours a golden orange, with lots of floaties. A quickly descending head of about one inch leaves lots of webby lacing behind.

Smells like pine and grapefruit, with some herbal (marijuana) like aromas as well.

This one is slightly catty, with tons of pine, a bit of moss, some grapefruit, and crackery, bready malt. Nothing completely outstanding or wow-factor worthy, just really, really tasty and drinkable.

Light bodied, with a slightly watery mouthfeel, could be a lot fuller. There's a medium amount of carbonation, and very little lingering bitterness.

Another solid entry from Otter Creek.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a golden yellow with a small eggshell white head. There's also some floaties and sediment, letting you know this is unfiltered. The retention is great and it has very sticky lacing, which gives the appearance extra credit. The aromas have alot of ripe grapefruit going on. Some caramel malts in the mix. Some grass. Some lemon and lime zest is noticeable as well. The flavors are very sharp and crisp. Lots of grapefruit. Some orange and more lemon/lime. Lots of citrus. Tons of fresh pine needles. Very earthy. This is has a very sharp bitterness. The mouthfeel is on the lighter side, but it still has a body to it; very active carbonation. Very smooth. Alcohol goes unnoticed.

This is a very clean and crisp take on the style. This being unfiltered seems to take it to the next level. This packs a punch for being such a small beer. Well crafted. Solid stuff.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a US tumbler pint glass.

A: The beer is a light gold color, with a short off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains floral hops, fruity citrus and caramelized malts.

T: The taste starts out with a strong burst of grassy hops bitterness. Then some citrus and caramel sweetness quickly follows. The malt character is hearty but not too heavy and brings a good balance. The after-taste is slightly hoppy and slightly sweet.

M: Crisp and smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down easily, not too filling, mild kick, good representation of style, this is a solid and flavorful beer to pound down for a long time.

A- slightly hazy yellow/gold with a thin white head and lacing

S- mango, pear, peaches, orange juice and a touch of grapefruit.

T- again mango, ripe pears, peaches, pineapple, orange and grapefruit rind middle of the mouth, slightly sweet/bready malt, and finishes with a sweet fruit bitterness

M- creamy low carbonated mouthfeel, sweet semi dry and bitter

O- another great seasonal from the boys at ottercreek, a deliciously fruity pale ale, that will want you wanting more with every sip

12oz bottle. Pours a very pale semi hazy yellow color with very little head. Minimal lacing. The aroma is almost like sweet citrus candy and some dank hops. Floral notes. The taste is sweet citrus and tropical fruits. Again, almost like candy. Some dank hops as well. Finishes with a mix of the sweet citrus and dank hops. Medium bodied. Slightly soapy aftertaste. Probably in the middle of the recent run of these new Otter Creek beers (Double Dose, Citra Mantra, Fresh Slice). Overall, solid hoppy Pale Ale.

Poured from the 12 oz bottle into a snifter.
Pours a nice honey/straw color with generous head on this APA.
Smells dank, hoppy and lots of malt backbone.
Tastes great, great hop bitterness on the finish. Big APA flavor but drinkable.
Mouthfeel was really nice not too thin. Just right.
Overall, Mike Gerhart lights it up again. A drinkable and deliciously flavorful APA.

Had this on 2014-08-14 in Columbia, PA

A - Mildly-hazy gold with a 1.25-finger white head and good lacing.

S - Dank but on the lighter side, grass, pale malt, light yeast. Smells inviting.

T - Some pineapple and dank hop bud up front; then some pale malt and grapefruit flesh "sweetness". There's moderate lingering lime zest bitterness; more than a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. This isn't as balanced and leans more to the hop bud flavor. Tasty though.

M - Light-medium body and medium-high carbonation. Crisp and a bit prickly.

O - A nice take on the APA style; clearly favoring a big dose of fresh hop goodness. Well done as have been all the beers in the Mike Gerhart series.

Pours into a standard pint a dull light golden with a sticky half finger white head atop.Tropical fruits and a some resinous notes over top of some nutty malts, the fruity hops are nice and they linger. The palate is on the dryer side with a lighter feel, would have liked just a little more of a malt backbone but the hops are nice and "green" and fruity. Not bad,a nice sessionable hoppy pale.

Leafy hops on the nose
