We pour a deep brown brew that exhibits maroon speckles when held to the light. It holds a quickly dissipating one finger head, tan in color. Carbonation is noted around the glass. The aroma is composed of tin, up front on the nose, strong roasted malts, dark chocolate, and some sweet cream. As we taste, the metallic sense from the scent comes through moderately on the front. This is overpowered by roasted malts and toasted oat, which dominate the middle. The end is silky smooth, with the flavor of light malts interspersed with flecks of bittersweet cocoa. The aftertaste is calm, with malty sweetness as its spokesperson. The body is light to medium, and there is light to medium carbonation noticeable. The feel is slick, somewhat creamy, and very smooth. The mouth is left on the dryer side, but is not unhappy. The abv is standard and the beer drinks with the ease of a lighter stout.
Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was how smooth the beer drank. As is afforded in the making of an oatmeal stout, the mouthfeel becomes delicate and soft, and helps the beer drink a bit better. While the beer had these characteristics, it also gave off an unpleasantly metallic aroma, and subsequent taste. This was backed by otherwise mildly strong components, which did little to fulfill the expectations of the drinker.
