Pint glass pour is pale amber/brown, orange highlights, hazy. Off-white head retains very well. Scent is dessert-y, definitely on the sweet side, improves nicely with warmth. Caramel and brown sugar mostly, with some light cocoa, vanilla, nutty malts and bread.

Taste is less sweet but plainer, offering mostly caramel, nutty malts, bread, light roast and some leafy hops there as well. Slight off/medicinal tastes. The mouthfeel is a pretty thin and highly carbonated for the style but not really a bother.

Not bad but lacking some flavor and body, the scent was good.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass.

a. Medium translucent amber with a eighth inch head which dissipated quickly. Little lacing as it drained.

s. Hardly any noticeable odor. Not a good omen for this drinker, who likes flavor!

t. Very little to distinguish it from most other mild ales.

m. Pleasant to drink. Light, moreso than its darker color and higher ABV (for a brown) might predict.

o. Disappointing. I was hoping for more from a Vermont brown. It's not bad by any means, just too mild for this reviewer. If you are into organic, it might outattract much of the competition on that basis. Good enough with a meal, refreshing on a hot day. But then there are plenty of cheaper ales which can accomplish that. OTOH, highly sessionable; perhaps the best thing going for it is the mild taste yet moderate ABV.

Bottle > Pint Glass
A - Pours a murky amber color, half a finger head, thinner on the lacing.
S - Toffee Malts, with some nutty characteristics like hazelnut, earthy hop scents, and a slight touch of smokiness.
T - Moderate malt, clove, nice balacned hop bite with the slightly roasted malt.
M - Middle of the road, smooth and drinkable, the good flavors stay with you.
O - I'd say this would be best for fall, but is an average brown ale, not the best but certainly drinkable by all means.
