on tap @ the Old Bay, New Brunswick, NJ

eyeballing it....
clean looking copper color, head dissipates quickly out to the edges of the pint glass

nasal notes...
the hops are up front and floral, nothing other wordly but good

mouth notes...
tastes like it looks, crisp and fresh, the hops are up front and have a nice twang of bitterness, the alcohol is hidden well here

this doesn't bowl you over but is done well in all categories, good session beer in the fall/winter. just enough to cut spicy foods imo.

An American IPA much more English in character pours a medium golden with an average head that left a little lace, aroma is leafy and lightly herbal with a dry biscuity malt hint.Taste is really subtle a little minty and herbal with the dry malt coming thru more as I drank more.Iam not a hop head but when drinking an American IPA would like more hop presence, not horrible by any mean just seems a little off.

Appearance – Solid orange in color with a little cloudiness and a good head that came up nicely and laced my glass..

Smell – Big citrus hops and a very light caramel malt backbone make up the aroma of this IPA.

Taste – The malt balance steps it up at the taste. The citrus hops are nice, and a tad bit of piney flavor joins the show. This one is well balanced.

Mouthfeel – Creamy and smooth with a slight tang to the cheeks. This one is just medium in the body and very refreshing.

Drinkability – I liked this one a little better than my fellow BAs. I thought it was well balanced, refreshing, and would make a terrific session beer.

A: A slightly hazy light copper color pours with a good head stand. the head is a persistant creamy and rock off-white head.

S: Citrus and pineapple hops aroma with a low grassy note dominate the aroma. There is some malt and light orange-like fruity ester.

T: There is good hops bitterness but the hops and malt flavors are muted. A toasty and biscuty malt with a touch of sweetness support an assertive hops bitterness and moderately-strong hops flavors of citrus and pineapple. There is a light orange ester, no diacetyl.

M: Medium bodied and moderately-strong carbonation with a slight prickle on the middle of the tongue. A light alcohol warmth.

O: A pretty decent IPA with a nice hops flavor that unfortunately isn't to lively. I'm hoping this is a result of not being all that fresh because if the flavors poped it would be an outstanding beer. There is a bit of astringency, while not that bad, that could be reduced by using a high alpha acid hop variety.

Pours a copper coloured beer with orange hues. head is decent with a nice white cap that settles to a creamy foam lace ring. Alcohol, light spicy hops, bready in the aroma.

Nice mild citrus hop sting, with a cheesy hop character. Hops are also a bit spicy/herbal and meld with a light spicy alcohol presence. Body is medium, mouthfeel is smooth and even. Malt character is ample and sweetish, with earth and wood notes. Nice hearty, dextrin fullness. Some bready flavours in the background. Fruity and juicy around the edges.

Nice alcohol bite, balanced with a firm malt and defining hop character. Just a good, solid IPA in my book.

Presentation: 12oz short brown twist, on the neck states that this product is certified by the OTCO as organic. No freshness date.

Appearance: Pale amber in colour with a creamy bubbly sticky lace.

Smell: Raw hop aroma, rustic grain and mild fruit.

Taste: Rich mouth full of rounded grainy malt, raw intense hop and some fruity esters. Some chewiness shows the residual sweetness and dextrins, the hop bitterness and flavour cut the malt to be well balanced for an IPA.

Notes: Very rich and very tasty, and at 6.5% abv it warms the body a little.

Pours a clear apricot gold body with a small bonewhite head that retains well and leaves attractive patchy lace all over the glass. Aroma has a subdued note of pine cone hops, but is mostly citrus fruity. Orange notes dominate, complimented by a hint of grassy clover honey. Mouthfeel reveals a light medium body with moderate carbonation. Taste is grassy and fruity, with orange esters providing a sweet citrusy note. Good pale malt base with a bitter closing that resurrects the pine cone hoppiness. Very tasty and enjoyable, but not exactly to style. Thanks to mtnlover for this bottle.

sampled a few 12 ouncers, with bottled on dating, yeah fresh beer! Pours a clear golder amber, white head. Leaves light wispy lacing. Full, hoppy, grainy nose, maybe also a note of rye. Medium bodied, grainy dry hops up front, maybe a tad thin in the malt to smooth this one out, still a drinkable ale, Long lasting bitter and drying hops on the tongue. Worth a try, decent sessioner

This has become my go-to beer lately. Stocked and reasonably priced at University Wine on Mass Ave in Cambridge. I just wished more places carried it and Otter Creek didn't make it in limited batches.

Distinct hoppy character. Perhaps the hop character is different from other IPA's because it is an organic beer, or because they use different hops than what I am used to. Whatever it is, I like it.

Color is a nice orangish amber, pours to a nice head. Does have a bit of "stickiness" in consistency that is pretty common to American IPA's.

If I have one dig against this beer is that I have noticed a slight variation in quality between batches. Normally, I chalk that up to how a beer is shipped, but I have a suspicion that it is more due to the fact that this is a smaller brewery. Also, since it is organic, there may be more natural variation than what is usually pushed out to us by the big boys.

In short, it's local, cheap, organic and a tasty beer to boot. What's not to love?

12oz bottle with bottled-on date of 5/5/08. Into Sierra Nevada pint glass...

A: Hazy orange. Hard pour,no head though. great lacing all the way down the glass.

S: Citrus. Grapefruit mabye some lemon rind as well.

T: Tastes fine at first then a strong wierd (metallic?) after taste comes in and LINGERS.

M: Not sticky. Balanced until that wierd taste hits.

D: It's a good try. I've definately had much worse. All these organic beers seem to always have something off about them. There are better/cheaper ipas out there, so I wont be buying this one again.

This is a good beer from Wolaver's, pouring medium gold with high head and excellent lacing on the inside of the glass. Bright hop aroma with citric flavors. The beer itself is quite light, in color and maltiness, to make way for a hop showcase that is neither flashy nor gaudy. Just a brisk, enjoyable crispness and a bit of grapefruity prickle. A solid beer, not very characterful, but definitely tasty. I would like perhaps a somewhat larger malt profile, but this is a minor quibble. I first had a Wolaver beer a few years ago and thought it was insipid, lacking flavor, perhaps due to the organic ingredients. This is happily not the case now. I don't know if they have improved their craft or if it was the switch to Otter Creek in Middlebury, VT, but this beer has as much substance as need be.

Poured into becker pint glass; dark orange, slightly cloudy, with a thick fluffy white head that sticks around and leaves nice lacing. Smell is well-balanced, lots of malt with some crackery notes, and some attenuated floral hop scents. Taste is spot on the nose; crackery, slightly sweet malts, and floral juicy hops on the back end with a full, creamy mouthfeel and a wet, crisp finish. Certainly nowhere near as hoppy as its American-style counterparts, but a fine beer.

Copper, almost brown. Medium head, below average retention. Aroma was farmy and caramel.

Caramel and a decent amont of hopping. The malt structure is too much though for this. It clouds the hops, weighs on the mouthfeel, grows into the heavy woody feel. Too bad how it finishes, it starts out with a little promise.

Pours a pale copper hue with a large off white head, nice retention going on. Aroma has some muted pine cone with a spice citrus note, but overall has a sour twang with earthy hops almost tobacco notes. Flavors have sugary pale malts with a burst of light alcohol, hops have citrus rind and pine cone tip bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied carbonation is prett lively, nice dry aftertaste. Drinkability is solid but definitely my least fave out of the 3 I tried from the sampler compared to the pale and the brown ales.

Free beer from Mommy, alright! 12oz. brown bottle poured into a pint. No dating.

A: Pours a very slightly cloudy apricot. Maybe 1 finger of off white rocky head forms and has some retention. Some patchy lacing.

S: Very floral with a soft citrus scent. Maybe some Fuggel hops. Malts in the back with some grainy and sweet scents.

T/M: I'd definitely say more on the English IPA side but better than most(IMO). Bitterness is pretty weak and the citrus is on the lemon lime side of things. A little bit of that yeasty zap that I really don't like in IPAs. Malts are powder sugar sweet and body is very thin.

D: Easy to drink but not tasty enough to think about. But it was free!

Big white long lasting head sits above a not quite clear honey golden colored beer.

Sour grains and little bitter hops aroma on this medium bodied beer.

A light sweetish hops taste with a light bitter aftertaste.

An ok, but lesser IPA, grab yourself some Broken Halo instead.

Poured into a pint glass. Huge head explosion meant that I had to take a minute off before pouring the rest into my glass. This beer has a huge fruit aroma. Once the head died down there was lots of spidery remanants along the top of the glass.

The taste is a very hoppy with substantial grapefruit overtones. Lots of fruity overtones. This is a very refreshing beer on a warm day, I could drink these all day long. I'm not sure if I prefer this to SN Torpedo or Commodore Perry, still excellent.

Appearance - surprisingly red colored when poured but seemed to settle into more of an amber. There was little head when poured into a tulip glass
Aroma - very little off the nose in the bottle but surprisingly smooth and light citrus aroma from the glass
Taste - there was a delicate spice to the aftertaste and mild citrus hop originally
Mouthfeel - crisp, light and refreshing and not too carbonated
Overall - definitely a surprisingly tasty beer for it's organic status and I would recommend to an IPA connoisseur looking to expand their palate
