I am kind of shell shocked from too many different beer tastes this weekend. I bought this among the many others to give a little relief. I was hoping for something light, like it is, but a bit more aromatic. I think of Kolsch having better finishing hops than this.

It is very drinkable, and not a bad beer by any measure, but I had hoped for more. I would buy it again if I wanted to compare various of this style, but otherwise I would leave it.

Otter Creek Spring Ale

Appearance: golden, smell head, and good lacing.

Smell: pleasant light grain and malt.

Taste: mild hops and grain.

Mouthfeel: medium-light and smooth with a creamy finish.

Overall:
This is a nice kölsch. Full flavored and creamy smoothness make it one to try for kölsch fans.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is grain and nothing else. This smells about like a BMC lager. I wish I could say the flavor was better, but I can't. I get a ton of grain notes as well as some corny sweetness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This beer has nothing in common with other kolsches I have tried.

Otter Creek Spring Ale pours a clear gold with a thin layer of white foam. The aroma has vanilla, fruit, and yeast notes. It's flavor again has a bit of vanilla leading to hints of coriander and pine. Well balanced between bitter and sweet, it has a slightly tangy aftertaste. The mouthfeel is medium over the entire palate. This beer has a high drinkability and is a good representative of the kolsch style. Recomended.

A: This poured mostly clear gold with a bit of white head.
S: It smelled like light lemon and banana with lots of bready yeast.
T: It tasted like clean and light citrus with some bready yeast. The aftertaste had very light bitterness.
M: It was watery with a little carbonation.
D: This was a very ligth and clean beer that was super easy to drink. It had no boldness or complexity or unique elements, but that's ok for a simple summer beer. I'll probably never have it again, but there was nothing wrong with the beer either.

12oz bottle into an Andechs weizen glass.

Not the most attractive Kölsch by any stretch of the imagination--hazy, lemon-blonde body with a listless carbonation level. The head is scant even with an aggressive pour, and all that collects is a thin wisp and ring of spittle-white bubbles. The aroma is headed in the right direction, though, with a light fruitiness of lemon zest and apples. Just a slight hint of sourness underlies a crisp malt profile that suggests wheat and bread dough.

I'll give Otter Creek's Kölsch the benefit of the doubt, as the one I had with dinner tasted substantially better than the one currently in front of me for a midnight cap. Pale malts taste crisp thanks to a lively carbonation level, and although the hops are muted, they do give off enough of a bite to add some pleasing grassy bitterness characteristic of the style. Mouthfeel is light on the tongue and effervescent with bubbles, while the finish is snappy and lingers with a hint of minerals. Not a bad beer, especially at the on-sale Specs price of $3.99 a six-pack (say whaaaat??). I'll enjoy the rest of my purchase, but probably won't be picking up this one again.

Poured into a NB chalice, this beer is a bright but slightly hazy gold, with a quickly fading head. The nose is pleasantly malty, though a tad grainy. The flavor is sweet, with light malt, with moderately fruity yeast character. Bitterness is moderate with little hop flavor. Light, refreshing beer.

A: It poured crystal clear pale yellow in color with a finger-sized creamy bright white head. A moderate amount of carbonation is visible.
S: The smell isn't very strong, but there are aromas of grainy malts and grapes.
T: Like the smell, there are mostly flavors of grainy malts and grapes along with some notes of bitterness from the hops. The overall taste has a little bit of sweetness.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate but isn't very crisp or dry due to the subtle presence of hops.
D: The beer is very drinkable and goes down smoothly. I could definitely have a few of these back-to-back.

12 oz bottle with a code of 262421010510, bottled Jan 5th? Pours a hazy light gold color with a rapidly vanishing white foam. Lacing is pretty nice though.

Sweet grains with the typical spiced yeast kolsch aroma. Sweeter smelling than most of the style and a bit more bready. Hops are faint to non-existent here.

Taste follows suit very well with a bit more floral tettnanger hop profile showcased. This is one of the sweeter kolsches I have had and the yeast does not seem to do as much work as I like to see in the style. Still though, this is a decent stab at one of my favorite warm weather styles. Body is full enough and even has a little bit creamy texture that is nice. Goes down very easy, not too shabby - I am not regretting my six pack purchase at all.

Poured from a bottle to a glass

Appearance - a cloudy golden color

Smell - has a fruity and sweet smell

Taste - it has a fruity taste with not much after taste... it stays for a little while but not too long

Mouthfeel - light bodied, medium carbonation, makes my mouth water. feels great when you're sitting on your porch on a beautiful summer day

Drinkability - easy to drink, since the after taste doesn't stay too long it makes you go back for more soon, if you're just chillen you might find yourself drunk unless you have self control, which i do not.

This is a a good beer for a nice summer day, i even found it for $7.99 a 12 pack so i would much rather drink this than bud light or anything thats the same price usually.

Pours a golden clear yellow color with a soapy head that doesnt amount to much. Not even much lacing at all! Other ones in the 6 pack were fine so maybe I did something wrong...
Still nice and fresh looking. No cloudiness at all.

Smells of yeast but honestly, not much else.

Makes up its ground in the taste! Nice and light tasting bodied beer with moderate carbonation. At 1st taste there's plenty of malt and yeast pushing through with a bit of clean hops. Not overwhelmingly so but just enough. Very well balanced. Also lemon zest with a nice bready finish. Perfect for a spring/summer afternoon.

This was a nice beer, but I still prefer Geary's Summer Ale as an example of a good kolsch.
In a pint glass the beer was a hazy gold color with a medium white head. A bit of lacing.
It had a citrus and sweet malt aroma.
Taste of lemon, some bread, and a bit of late hops.
Crisp and dry.
Nice beer.

Otter Creek: Spring Ale, Kolsch (Bottled: 01/05/10) (Tasted 04/12/10)
12 oz. bottle, poured into a dimple mug.

Appearance: Bright, lightly hazed golden liquid with a squat soap-bubble head that leaves a few strands of lacing on the sides of the glass.
Odor: Lemon zest, hints of rich maltiness and a smattering of floral hop aromas wafts up into my nose.
Consistency: Crisp feel with a moderate level of carbonation which lends a fluffy feel to the beer.
Flavor: That 'ol familiar Otter Creek bread-crust yeast flavor kicks things off, it works extremely well for this style. Citric, slightly waxy hop flavor phases in and out, adding a hint of lemon zest, as noted from the nose. Finish is dry, yeasty and short. Bit of lemon and bread-crust lingers.

This is a good beer, no glaring flaws, in fact, it's a great thirst quencher. For my money though, I prefer more depth to the malt flavor in a kolsch, more dough/bread pils malt goodness.
