Appearance: Clear deep amber, almost opaque, with a robust tan head that retains well, thin, broken lacing like ancient hieroglyphs, and moderate, slow-rising carbonation.

Aroma: Dark caramel malt, some earthiness, coffee, bitter cocoa, perhaps a little faint herbal hops.

Taste: Opens with dark roasted malt, some earthiness, a bit later there is some chocolate. The toasted malt is dominant throughout the taste. Late in the taste, a backdrop of charcoal appears. Finishes with a lingering, slightly acidic roasted note.

Mouth feel: Smooth with a bit of carbonation and a touch thin.

Drinkability/notes: A few small flaws keep this from being a great porter, rather than merely a good porter, namely, the body is a bit thin, and the ABV a touch low. Still, its not bad by any consideration.

Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a Pilsener glass.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle stamped with 3414-091212. Sampled on January 20, 2014 and I have to think it is well past its expiration date.

The pour is dark brown with a short-lived tan colored head. Great color.

The aroma is of dark malts, smoke, butter, and earthy hops.

The body is in the medium range with a creamy texture.

The taste is much like the aroma with a decent dark malt forward character, mild sweetness, burnt barley, and a fairly mild hop finale. A pretty well balanced Porter that is easy to drink.
