look: 2.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 2.5 | feel: 2.5 | overall: 3

12 oz bottle poured into pint glass

A: Pours light copper, about a fingers worth of head that settles to little to nothing with no real lacing.

S: I like the smell here... all the normal Pumpkin smells... Cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, allspice and pumpkin. I'm also getting a little grassy, earthy hops.

T: A big hit of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg right up front before giving way to a bitter grassy hops, The pumpkin kind of pops in mid palate but that grassy hops kind of kills any goodness going on.

M: Light to mid bodied... Little thinner than I was hoping and dry in the finish... Carbonation is pretty light as well.

O: I love the smell of this beer but the grassy hops is killing it for me. The ABV seems pretty low but 1 will do it for me. (747 characters)

12oz bottle poured into a Duvel tulip.

Pours a dark ruby amber color with a pretty one finger white head that quickly fades to a thin white acing. Nose is nutmeg and cinnamon with a light creamy mellow pumpkin note.

Taste is very well balanced. I generally don't like pumpkin beers because of the spices but they are fairly understated and work well with the pumpkin. The Mouthfeel is ful and creamy with a sharp finish. Overall its quite good! (448 characters)

A - This beer pours a slightly hazy orange copper color. It has a finger of off-white head resting on top. The head has pretty good retention, and it leaves behind some whisky lace on the glass.

S - The nose has some light pumpkin and spice aromas. There is also some light maltiness and a mild hop presence.

T - The taste starts off with some light malts and wheat flavor. There are some light pumpkin and spice notes here as well. There is a mild hop presence also. The finish leaves some lingering spice and wheat flavor behind.

M - This has a medium body and average carbonation. It has a pretty good feel and there is somewhat of a tingly feel. There is a little bit of hop bitterness, and it has a bit of a refreshing quality to it.

O - This has decent drinkability. I would have no problem drinking a few of these in an evening. Overall, I thought this was a pretty decent pumpkin ale. It is a little bit bland, but it's still pretty nice. Give it a shot. (967 characters)

Cloudy orange-amber color. Moderate head but it settles to a continuous centimeter of bubbles. Slippery lace.

I truly dislike the smell of this beer. If I'm kind, I'd call it earthy. I smell a sweaty old socks. In a word, repulsive.

The flavor is an improvement...a little. Very dry flavor. Relatively thin body with a spritzy bubbles. Light on the pumpkin and the expected spices. Short aftertaste. (402 characters)

Amber red color that is hazy and cloudy. There is minimal tan head that fades fast and very small amounts of lacing in the glass

The smell is spices and very pumpkin like, these spice notes are strong and there is not many detectable undertones to the aromas

taste is slightly above average for this style very spicy and pumpkiny I would imagine this beer may pair well with a thanksgiving dinner but may be a little to much on its own

mouthfeel is average with average body nothing special about it

overall this is a pretty average beer, not for thous who dont like this style maybe worth a try if you enjoy pumpkin beer (625 characters)

Review from notes.

A: Pours a deep golden color with a small head on top. Not much retention and very thin lacing.

S: Some caramel and basic pumpkin beer spices. A little weak.

T: Rather bready. There is some pumpkin and caramel, as well as some nutmeg and a little cinnamon.

M: Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Slightly sticky finish.

O: It was ok. Overall, it seemed a little thin. It drinks fine, but there are other, easy to attain pumpkin beers that I would rather drink. (491 characters)

A: orange beer with tan foam

S: allspice, pumpkin

T: allspice, pumpkin, clove; dry, not sweet, very vegetal

M: mild carbonation, no bitterness, no aftertaste

O: I personally want a sweet pumpkin ale, but this was too earthy and (dare I say) organic tasting - not a bad beer by any means, but just not my style of pumpkin ale. (329 characters)

This beer poured out as a little bit of a hazy orange brown color with a pretty good looking white head on top. The head retention was pretty good, but didn't leave any lacing at all. The smell of the beer had a pretty good aroma of spices going on in it and some sweet grains too. The taste was a little on the weak side, it had enough flavor to show that it was a pumpkin ale but just not enough to impress me. The mouthfeel of the beer was decent, medium bodied with a light creaminess to it. Overall it could have been a little better but it wasn't terrible. (562 characters)

A very hazed brew with a moderate head that fade after a few minutes. Some lace and a light covering remain. Pretty fragrant aroma of pumpkin and spices. Some biscuit and malt underneath and clove tinged earthy hopiness. Taste has a nice graininess wrapped in mild pumpkin pie flavors. Spices are a bit forward of the gourd but not a bad mix. Finish is dry and earthy. A mineral edged sourness develops in the back of the finish with clove and light notes of graham. Feel is well carbonated and crisp with a light weight that lends itself to fall quaffing. A solid effort that while not a standout has enough character to set itself apart. (639 characters)

A white head that fades in about two minutes into a ring around the glass. The color is a hazy amber-orange.

Cinnamon, spice and pumpkin is the main aroma. Also a slight buscuity smell as well.

Cinnamon, spice and pumpkin just like the nose. A bready taste comes in as well with a clove spiciness being the main attraction. It's a little weaker than other Pumpkin Ales I have tried but not bad.

Carbonation is high and bites the tongue hard. Light body and goes down quite easily.

Not a bad Pumpkin Ale just seems watered down -- like this would be the "lite pumpkin ale" -- certainly session-able. (602 characters)

Pours with a healthy 1-2F of foamy off-white head over a very cloudy deep orange body. Nice lacing.

Aromas are pretty faint - some malt, touch of "pumpkin spices".

Pretty easy drinking beer. Some nutmeg and a touch of clove, but there's a little citrus in there, too, which seems inappropriate (lemony). As it warms, I'm even getting some medicinal (bitter cough syrup) qualities ... not good. Mouthfeel is pretty thin, but not uncommon for the style - sort of like drinking an English brown ale.

There's nothing "fake" or overdone about this Pumpkin Ale, but it's just a tad too thin and tangy to be at the top of my list for the future. (641 characters)

Pours a hazy orangish copper with a small white head with decent retention. Aromas are primarily spicy, as is the taste. There's a lot of nutmeg, cinammon, and gingerbready notes on the nose and the tongue. Hops are not a prominent feature except for a genuinely pumpkin-like bitterness and slightly herbaceous finish after the swallow. Overall, this beer is not nearly as much of a spice bomb as other pumpkin ales and deserves credit for delivering a lot of malt character and body. (484 characters)

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Slightly hazy orange-amber with lots of tiny bubbles and a two-finger, off-white, foamy head that lasted a while. Nice lacing.

S: Mild pumpkin, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Nice.

T: Light sweetness and subtle bitterness to balance. Pumpkin and spice, but pretty mild. Nice malty flavor in the finish.

M: Light to medium bodied with soft carbonation. Very smooth and somewhat dry.

O: This beer was great except for the flavor, which was a bit underwhelming for a pumpkin ale. Too bad. (510 characters)

Pours an orangish brown, with a little head.

Smell is mild for a pumpkin ale. A little cinnamon and spice, nutmeg... but I'd like more.

Taste is weak, few tones of pumpkin, mainly just too thin for a fall beer. Some cinnamon taste mixed in as well.

Overall, way better pumpkin's out there. River Horse, Smuttynose, etc. (325 characters)

Poured into a standard pint glass. I believe the date on the bottle is 7/25/11. From a certified organic brewery.

A: Poured a fairly hazy mostly orange color - reminds me of the color of an orange tootsie roll pop. Very big fizzy bubbles streaming up through the glass. Almost looks like an orange soda. Head fades from about a finger and a half to nothing very quickly.

S: Some pumpkin spices for sure. Very earthy vegetal pumpkin notes along with some yeastiness. Floral hop presence is minimal but present. Some sweet caramel notes as well...as it warmed, I got a bit of soapiness in there.

T: Spices are more subtle in the taste than I thought they would be. Mostly nutmeg, not a lot of cinnamon, but some...maybe some ginger as well. Spicy floral hop notes toward the end and a little bit of a metallic bite that lingered - maybe from the carbonation?? Very definitely more on the pumpkin side than spice side, especially as it warms in the glass. Pretty basic caramel malt notes.

M: Creamy, medium bodied beer. Not as carbonated as it looked, very drinkable.

O: Everyone always complains that pumpkin beers are more spice than pumpkin...well this one is definitely more pumpkin. While at first, I was a little disappointed that it didn't have that immediate sweetness and spiciness that most pumpkin ales tend to have, once I got past that and really started to focus on what this beer actually was, I could appreciate what Wolaver's had created. And that was a "true" pumpkin beer...which just happens to be not all that great when compared to other styles. For the style, it's good...for a "true" pumpkin beer, it might even be a fantastic example...but I probably won't be buying it again. (1,703 characters)

The label says Wolaver's Pumpkin Ale, nothing about Will Stevens. This is poured with an orange amber color with a slight bit of haze but not much. The head is light burnt sienna.

The aroma is really nice with pumpkin and just a bit of spice; maybe some cinnamon and some nutmeg? The smell is very enticing.

The taste only hints at pumpkin flavor with some nice cinnamon in the finish. This drinks relatively dry though.

The body is pretty full, this fills you up nicely with a good textured carbonation.

I like this one. The smell is really great and the taste delivers beer first and pumpkin spice second. (611 characters)

A - Pours an orange copper hue with a cream to off white head. Small but with decent sticky lacing around the brim of the glass.

S - Smells of the usual fall spices, allspice, clove, cinnimon, nutmeg and some faint pumpkin coming through it all. It has a very nice aroma to it that makes me want to drink it right away.

T - The well balanced pumpkin pie spices hit the palate right away amd develop into a sweet malty finish. Nice and crisp.

M - Slightly thin but perfect for drinking more than one. Not too sweet or heavy.

O - I really enjoyed this beer and would give it an overall top 5 for pumpkin beers. Highly recommended if you like anything with pumpkin flavor. (674 characters)

Aroma: Orange and spice upfront for some reason. Pale and caramel malts.

Appearance: Amber-brown, clear. Medium tan head. Leave a thin creamy layer. Good retention.

Flavor: Sweet malts. Spices, orange, cinnamon. Some bitterness from incomplete fermentation, almost like lemons. Saw a lot of residue at the bottom of the bottle at the end of the pour.

Mouthfeel: Little carbonation. Light to medium body. Turns a bit dry towards the end.

Overall: OK. could have gone without the leftover yeast. Good brew other than that one flaw. (534 characters)

sampled during an impromptu pumpkin tasting. pours an orange hue. scent is of cinnamon, nutmeg, and malt. not much pumpkin character. taste is similar but not as interesting as the nose. mouth is light, not a bad beer for the season so long as the price is right. (263 characters)

Reviewing as the re-branded for 2011, "Wolaver's Pumpkin Ale"

A: Pours orange-copper, cream colored head. What I'm seeing matches a pumpkin color scheme, actually.

S: Vegetal pumpkin aromas, cinnamin, nutmeg, caramel malt sweetness.

T/M: "Natural" pumpkin characteristics...vegetal, fleshy. Meaty pumpkin flavors are quickly countered by an array of seasonal spices mid palate. Some nice bready sweetness in the finish. A little sharp and muted at fridge temps, much better as the glass warms just a bit. Well balanced. Mouthfeel is a solid "medium", carbonation is right on.

O: A solid opener for the Fall season. I would (and will) buy again. (648 characters)

Appearance: Clear copper. Slight chill haze disappears pretty quickly. Head is bright-white and thin. Diminishes to almost nothing pretty quickly. No lacing to speak of. Carbonation is lively.

Smell: The usual spices. Clove, cinnamon, nutmeg allspice, but they're all pretty tame. Some nice squashy pumpkin flavor lifts through the spices. I like when pumpkin beers do this. A little sweet, but at least it smells like pumpkin pie made with real pumpkins. A touch of something grassy hangs out in the back.

Taste: A faint shadow of the nose. A solid hit of cinnamon and nutmeg give way to a grassy, caramelly, malty mess. Crusty and sweet, like the edges of a pie. It's a mess, but it's still pretty tasty. Something like cereal grains sneak through the back and distract from the rest of the beer. Nutmeg is getting excessive.

Mouthfeel: Surprisingly dry for the style, almost absurdly so. The lively carbonation doesn't help any. Smooth despite the dryness, but gets a little rough toward the end of the beer.

Overall: Respectable, but that's as far as it goes. Pretty easy to drink, but might get a little touchy after a couple. The addition of real pumpkin, and the resulting flavor, is a nice touch. (1,210 characters)

Amyliz4 picked up a sixer of this at Whole Foods in Alexandria. Served in a Dogfish Head Alehouse Punkin pint glass.

Pours a slightly-hazed orange color with a thin light tan head and some slight lacing. The nose carries a bit of pumpkin and spice, mostly cinnamon and clove. The flavor is fairly heavy on the spice with quite a bit of cinnamon. Feel is overwhelmingly full of cinnamon and a bit of clove. Medium body with light sweetness. Not a fan at all. (458 characters)
