L: a slightly hazy orange brown color, bright white head that lingered for a bit
S: a lot of tropic fruits here, pineapple, mango. Sweet smelling
T: not so much like the nose. Lots of pine, dank hops, bitter hops
F: nice carbonation, leaves a solid bitter taste in the mouth
O: this beer grew on me as I drank it. Not sure it was worth hunting it down, but I was glad to try it.

For an attainable bottled double it's pretty darn good. Obviously, no Sunshine, Heady or Curiosity, but a very good between the good beers like sculpin and the elite like the VT beers.

Not sure why this is a world class rating. Solid beer but a tier 2 DIPA at best. Taste is decent but a little hard to drink. The price point is way too high as well. Glad I only got a single in my mix 4 pack. Would not purchase again this year. Hopefully next years batch is better.

Bottled 9/15/15, 2 or so weeks old

Appearance- Super hazy, orange golden color, pillowy white head that sticks to glass.

Aroma- Loads of juicy fruits, citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruits like pineapple bursting with sweetness. Some piney resin as well as some dankness, more subdued than the fruits though.

Taste- Tons more piney resin and dankness in the taste, bursting with flavorful fruits as well. Citrus complements the pine and dankness, with a nice balancing sweetness from the tropical fruits. Do get some malt body in there too, crackery biscuit like. There is substantial bitterness in my opinion, not just a beer that features hop aromas and get the bitterness too.

Feel- Sorta creamy, some stickiness. Nice moderate carbonation level.

Overall- So good, just an incredible level of fruity hop flavors...tons of bitter dankness....piney resin w/ has everything. Definetly world class.

L: Sexy. Burnt orange and opaque, nice golden held up in the light. Poured a 1 or 2 finger head.
S: Very fresh. Nice floral hops, hints of citrus, and a little EtOH mixed up in there as well. Malt comes thru with hints of roastiness.
T: Hops are bitter, but the bitterness is really nice in that they are not harsh. Just very smooth flavored. Also a nice grain character to this one.
F: Smooth and rich. Definately a little astringency that no doubt stems from the hops but regardless it remains a very smooth drink. Also no boozey flavor which means it goes back easy.
O: Beer was pretty hype up. Knew it was being released and the store I went to had a 1 beer per person thing going. All hype aside, this beer was great. Flavors were pretty standard but what got me about this beer was its restraint, its subtlies. There was a remarkable balance with this one, it was hoppy as hell without being super bitter and unpalatable. Well done.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a speiglau IPA glass.

Look is amber brown with a thick frothy head.

Aroma is straight citrus with thick herbs note.

Taste is bitter upfront with a lemon citrus end, but like lemon without the sour.

Feel is slightly tingling with a flat end.

So delicious.

Very tasty, good floral notes, a nice tailing bitterness. Great orangey gold color with a white head that fades pretty quickly.and a bit dry on the finish but not enough to change the flavor.

Served in a snifter glass right from the bottle.

Appearance: Cloudy Amber with medium bubbles on the body creating a white head rising to maybe half an inch off the body. Settles with almost no lacing and very even.

Smell: Citrus skin, think of grapefruit and pine trees. Not super potent which is a good thing, but just enough to to love.

Taste: Little citrus sweet, pink grapefruit with extra shot of hops. Seriously comes off complex with lightly sour notes.

Mouth: Medium to heavy carbonation and very sticky. Might come off a bit dry to some people but well worth it.

Overall: Very very good brew, definitely for any real beer aficionado. Fall in lust my friends. Salud!

Brown glass bottle courtesy of my friend Collins. Served cold into a snifter. Expectations are high given Lawson's involvement. Notes are briefer than I'd like on account of a less-than-ideal review environment.

HEAD: None. No lacing.

BODY: Unfiltered pale orange-copper of average vibrance. No yeast particulate or hop sediment is visible.

Appears adequately carbonated. It's a nice looking lively IPA. I'm looking forward to trying it.

AROMA: Pineapple, pale malts, floral hop character, orange juice. I'm not liking the hop aromatics; maybe this is old?

Aromatic intensity is moderate. No yeast character, alcohol, or off-notes are detectable.

TASTE: Follows the aroma, with some untamed juicy hop bitterness poking through the pale malt sweetness in the late second act, ruining the balance. Fresh tangerine is a highlight, indicative perhaps of New World tropical hops. I don't know if this is old or not, but the hop profile is unimpressive - and maybe even restrained. Others at the bottle share not it's malty, but I disagree - I just think the hop profile isn't emphasized/forward enough.

TEXTURE: Medium-bodied, overcarbonated, crisp, smooth, wet, and unrefreshing. Has a biteen of a stale presence on the palate. This texture doesn't elevate the beer as a whole, accentuate specific notes, or harmonize with the taste..

OVERALL: Not the world-class brew I expected from Lawson's - probably one of the best IPA producers in the U.S. - but drinkable and enjoyable for what it is. I'd like to try it fresh on-draught, and would like to revisit it to go into more detail in the future. Glad I got to try it, but definitely far from world-class. Still, it's easily well above average - just disappointing given the brewery.

Gorgeous bright copper color, pours a couple of fingers of tan head that retain very well. Aroma is super fruity. Tons of mangos and oranges in particular. Taste is also very fruity. Mangos, oranges, tangerines, and guava are all there, there is a a kick of bitterness to balance the sweet fruit and a solid malt backbone supporting the complex hop nuances. The very high alcohol is completely missing. Very impressive beer.

From a bottle without a readable date but the case was dated 9/19/15 so less than 2 weeks old. A great nose to start with and a nice white head on top. The hops profile comes to the nose and also follows in the taste nice smooth drinking DIPA. Glad I took the time to hunt this beer down after not bothering with it last year.

An incredibly delicious beer. Well balanced with a hop bitterness and a floral/citrus sweetness. Not overly malty. The nose was fantastic. Notes were from a 1/14 tasting during a period which I was able to purchase 8 4-packs over a 6 week period. Was not able to obtain any during the 14/15 release. I guess the secret was out. I will actively seek out from here on out.

A: Pours a very nice hazy orange color, a nice off white orange head at the top that sticks around for a while, great retention.

S : Lots of tropical fruits, mango, pineapple, grapefruit, lemon and peach, nice spice coming through at the end as well.

T: Almost exactly like the nose, lots of tropical fruit gives it great sweetness, and perfect amount of bitterness from the hops, nice spice at the end also.

M: Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, and a nice bitterness.

O: An awesome tasting IPA, scored this beauty off a trade, super well balanced and great tasting. I would love a whole pack of this bad boy. Awesome BREW.

A - Pretty nice looking IPIA. Creamy head pours a finger and a half high. Nice retention and lace. Light haze on a dried apricot body.

S - Super fresh hop character. It's like you rubbed them in your hands right off the vine. Net herbal with hemp, cilantro, fresh grass, orange, ruby red grapefruit, and white bread.

T - Sweet and smooth up front with white bread crust, and biscuity malt. Quickly turns aggressively bitter with citrus pith and wax. Honey and cilantro through the finish.

M - Full and creamy for the style.

O - Great body, great nose, and nice flavor profile.

Cloudy orange, small off white head that fades to a ring and leaves some chunky lacing. Big grapefruit nose, pulpy citrus fruit and a touch of sweetness in the nose. Taste is a big hit of grapefruit rind and pulp, tangerine, light malt sweetness, touch of floral character and grapefruit bitterness in the finish. Lower carbonation initially, medium body, then it pops with stronger prickly carbonation and a semi dry finish. Overall a really good DIPA but a bit one dimensional on the flavor profile.

Love this brew more than Lawson's more heralded Sip of Sunshine. It burst with dank hop notes, green, savory goodness. Similar on the palate, along with blips of tropical fruit, even melon. This is a seriously great beer that I wish wasn't a one-off or once-a-year sort of thing.

Pours a slightly hazed glowing orange copper with a slightly off white head, fine even layered speckled coat of lacing left on the sides of my nonic pint glass.

Aroma has pungent dank citrus, mango and papaya flesh very fruit driven big juicy fresh hop profile. Sugar coated hops with a depth of malt and breadiness. The orange peel and candy notes really keep reoccurring with every sniff.

Flavor explodes with expansive hop bitterness/flavor and malt balance. Citrus peel pith, crushed aspirin, dank mary jane, notes of tropical fruit papaya flesh a hint of mango big resinous hop oils coat the palate but are sugar coated making it balanced...well hidden booze I couldn't tell you this was 8.5% abv.

Mouthfeel, is medium to full bodied assertive bitterness dries out the palate but luscious malts keep things balanced...even natural carbonation with slick hop oils lubricating the palate quite well.

Overall, I've waited a year to try this...I can't imagine how this tasted closer to 9/18/14 but Pittsburgh just got a very limited amount for the first time...what sucks was the mark up was 8 bucks a bottle. However, it didn't deter me I had to have the Double Dose I'm a big fan of the Brewmaster Mike's series of hoppy offerings...this is exponentially better with Lawson on board Clementine the VW mini-bus portrayed on the label.

12oz bottle I found in Boston poured into a tulip. It was unrefrigerated, so not as fresh as it should be.

Appearance - pours a dark amber with almost no head. What head there was dissipated quickly, and there is exactly zero lacing on the glass. In fact, after finishing the glass looks clean.

Smell is slightly hoppy and grassy with some sweetness.

Taste is malt-forward. There's a little sweetness and floral/grassy flavors. Finish is bitter, but it's smooth and easy to drink. I was hoping for more citrus/fruity flavors, but it was not to be.

Mouth is a little syrupy for my liking, but fine.

I was hoping for something more. It's a good beer, but at $4 per 12oz bottle it's a little underwhelming. If you have the choice between Double Dose and Heady, then grab the Heady every time.

Look: Beautiful golden - copper color. Noticeable haze. Lots of small bubbles rising to the surface. Very small creamy head when poured that dissipates quickly, leaving a thin broken layer of foam on the surface and slight streaks of foam on the sides of the glass.

Smell: Delicious aroma - hoppy and citrus (think grapefruit). Made me want to drink the beer. Perfect.

Taste: Starts off citrus (grapefruit) and kind of herbal, then ends with a strong very bitter flavor and slightly dry finish. I did not care for the bitter finish personally.

Feel: Medium body. Relatively smooth. Nice carbonation. Dry finish though that left me wanting a glass of water.

Overall: A decent IPA. I would gladly drink again if someone served me this. However the bitterness and dry finish made me not want to purchase this again, as there are other IPAs that I would prefer over this one. I'm glad that I tried it!

A - Pours a translucent auburn/dark orange with a soft white head.

S - Strong tropical citrus grapefruit and orange nose and heavy pine and even some bitters.

T - follows the nose but with heavier pine than expected and a long BITTER finish. Too bitter in my opinion. Tone down the finish and this would be a much better beer. Not enough balance here.

M - Mouthfeel was interesting....a heavy buttery, creamy resinous mouthfeel with high carbonation.

O - a very good double IPA that may be one of the most over hyped and overrated beers I've had the pleasure of trying. I say pleasure because it's still a very good beer that I'd love to have again....I'm just not going out of my way to chase down one 12 oz bottle per customer for $5 in Massachusetts at many of the stores. Definitely not worth that much effort. Still good though.

L- Dark ambery orange, nice dank unfiltered with small head retention. No carb action. Head fades and leaves little to no lacing. S- Slight caramel. Aroma of citrus and fruity, a slight pepper comes through at the end. A nice dank resinous aroma comes through also. No hint of booziness. M- Crisp, very smooth for a 8.5%, no burn. Low carbonation but is still great and doesnt become overbearing for the style or flavors. T- Slight bitterness, peppery, hoppy, well rounded. Caramel hints, but is overshadowed by the citrus and fruitiness from the hops. Picking up mango, papaya and a slight orange. O- Wish this was available year round. Great collaboration. Loose the caramel flavors and thia would be amazing.

my brother is the man for hooking this one up for me, so much hype around it, and finally i get to have a bottle. heavy orange look to it, super heady, sticky looking, and ring lace as it drinks. is beautiful to look at it, moderately cloudy, really bold orange glow. the nose is citrus and honey for me, intense hops, tropical fruit, orange peel, mango, passion fruit, mowed lawn, and a sturdy but background barley malt base. the flavor is just like the nose, layers of intense fruit and pungent hops. some galaxy or citra or the like here in big proportion. i think the abv is perfect for the style too, but enough to do what its supposed to, but not large enough to show though at all, not distracting or even really all that visible here. long hoppy finish is quite in line with the west coast style, less delicate than the other vermont ipas that i love, but i think equally well put together. frothy feel, pretty dry, very bubbly, round, complete. one of the better big ipas ive had this year honestly, nothing i would change about it. i think i expected it to be a little more like the other hoppy lawson beers, and its something else entirely. definitely worth picking up or trading for though if these are your horse.
