12oz bottle. Pours a murky amber color with an inch of head. Lots of lacing. Great aroma of citrus and tropical fruits. Some white grapes and sweet pine. The taste is bitter upfront with some pine and citrus peel. Some tropical fruit notes but this one is mostly pine, grapefruit pith and orange peel. Floral notes. Great hop flavor and bitterness. A good deal of carbonation. Very dry and oily. Insanely drinkable with not much of an alcohol presence. This is a hell of a collaboration. It took some doing but I luckly got my hands on some and I'm glad I did. Overall, amazing Imperial IPA.

12 oz. bottle purchased at Franklin's Pub & Brewery in Hyattsville, MD., bottled on 9/20/13, poured into my FFF Teku glass, drank 10/16/13 over several hours.

A: 3/3 - deep orange-golden coloration, minimal clarity (can't see or read through), initial soapy white head dissipates into subtle glass lacing, moderate alcohol legs

S: 9/12 - mostly citrus fruit aroma - grapefruit, pineapple and apricot - and, as expected, some malt breadiness without much caramel aroma; it smells great but I wish that the aroma was more intense

T: 15/20 - on the anterior tongue, there is a citrus-like bitterness; it the middle of the mouth, the bitterness continues to linger with some malt balance with fruit notes - apricot, mango and papaya; 8.5% ABV is well-hidden; finishes dry and taste does not linger to invite another sip; no flaws detectable

M: 4/5 - thick hop oils coating the tongue, little alcohol presence in the mouthfeel, appropriate carbonation; the only problem for me is that it is a little thin for a DIPA

O: 8/10 - solid collaborative beer from Otter Creek and Lawson's, a brewery that I have only read about but never tried; I think that this is one of the best beers for Otter Creek but, unfortunately, it didn't live up to the hop hype that I was expecting from Lawson's; admittedly, this bottle is approximately one month old and was stored at room T in the store, but, still, the hop character needs to be more intense for this to qualify as a 98 on BA; also, for $5.71/bottle (and doesn't sound that much cheaper even in VT for a 4 pack), it's a bit of a rip like lots of imperial IPAs these days

TOTAL = 39/50

Really good DIPA. Pours a hazy butterscotch color with a small antique white head that fades fairly fast. Thick bands of lacing on the glass.

Aroma is citrus hops. Plenty of mango and tangerine in the aroma.

Taste is really good. The citrus hops are joined by some piney ones and a little oiliness. Not a hop bomb, just pleasant hop-forward characteristics with some balancing biscuity malt.

Mouthfeel is crisp, a little oily and with a soft "pillowy" aspect. No hint of alcohol. The temptation is to drink this one quickly.

An excellent DIPA,

Poured from bottle into a snifter

Appearance – The beer pours a super hazy orange-amber color with a nice white foamy head. The head has a good level of retention, but slowly fades over time to leave a great level of lace on the sides of the glass and islands of foam floating atop the brew.

Smell – The aroma is sweet and citrusy. The sweet is a blend of tropical fruits, with mango and papaya, as well as some sweet citrus of tangerine and orange. Along with the sweeter citrus is a good deal of a grapefruit hop smell. A great aroma of floral hop smells and some light pine and herbal hop join the profile, producing a nice sweet and rather complexly hopped aroma.

Taste – The taste begins with only a lighter level of sweeter fruit flavors, very different from all the fruit that was detected in the aroma. Upfront there is a good deal of a biscuit and bready flavor as well as a big grapefruit hop flavor. The grapefruit starts out strong and gets even stronger as the flavor advances. The bready and sweet flavors largely fade, but more biscuit and much more hop comes to the tongue as the taste advances to the end. Hop flavors of a grassy and pine nature come to the tongue in the middle and the end. While the sweeter flavors fade after the initial taste, a little bit of tangerine and orange sweetness comes back to the tongue at the finish of the taste, combining with the more heavily hopped taste to leave a lightly citrusy sweet but rather largely citrusy bitter flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thick and creamy side with a carbonation level that is on the slightly lower side. Both are great for accentuating the big hop flavors while minimizing the sweeter flavors to some extent. Overall they create a rather nice slow sipper that really allows all the hop flavors to shine.

Overall –While not completely balanced as it could use a slightly more malt/sweet flavor more toward the middle of the taste, it does have a nice hop profile and even at 8.5% maintains a rather easy drinking feel. A fairly nice double.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass, bottled 9/20/13. Pours a cloudy orange, with a one inch sticky white head, that leaves beautiful lace behind. Smell is pine, mango, apricot, and cut grass. Taste is really special, very balanced between tropical up front, and pine and grapefruit bitterness in the finish, that lingers on the tongue making you crave you next sip. Body is exceptional, medium large, with awesome life, a touch dry, and very drinkable. This is what you expect from Lawson's. Another exceptional DIPA from Vermont!

Thanks to Trenton Road Takeout for saving me a bottle of this.
Poured into a tulip a hazy peach color. Two finger heading with an eggshell colored heading. Good lacing throughout.

Nose is very tropical. Pine notes and grapefruit mostly dominate. Really no malty backbone at all.

Damn this one packs a punch. Heavy hop notes of pine, grapefruit and some orange zest. Slight caramel malt in the finish.

Medium bodied, excellent carbonation a little on the thin and boozey side. Doesn't finish all that clean. Heavy hop linger.

This is what I think of when I think Vermont IPA's. Very hoppy little to no maltiness but damn tasty !!!
