A decent dark beer- I'm happy with it!

Appearance- a dark brown, not quite as thick as I'd like (too much like gets through the edges)

Smell- generic dark malts, some vanilla

Taste- no real carmelization, mainly roasted malt flavors. No real coffee or caramel, but a good roasted malt flavor

Feel- lingers withough bitterness or cloying flayors, definitely one of the better facets of this beer. No real complexity, the flavor doesn't change as the drink goes down, but the dark malt flavors came through and were pleasant!

Overall- very happy with it! Maybe the lack of good dark beers around here plays into my opinions, but I'm going back for another one.

.5L emptied into a Pokal.

A: Pours a deep, walnut brown with a fluffy 2-finger tan head which slowly receeds to a thick ring. Lacing in the upper third of the glass.

S: Sweet toasted malts fill the nose, notes of caramel, dark chocolate and nuts.

M: Medium bodied with decent carbonation.

T: Follows the nose, sweet roasted malt comes to the fore, with a undertone of mild hops providing a nice balance. Mildly astringent aftertaste lingers just enough to savor this brew.

D: Really a nice beer, pleasant on the palate and goes down easy. A nice surprise.

Pours dark brown with large and foamy off-white head that settles to half-finger thickness and lasts for very long, leaving solid lacing.

Aroma is very malt with strong roasted nuts, maybe some chocolate - quite simple one. Taste is quite similar, quite sweet malty (with very light and short bitterness), dark chocolate can be felt, also some caramel. Aftertaste is sweetish and nutty.

Mouthfeel is more on the thin side. Overall - quite good dark beer, actually one of the best Hungarian dark beers.

Got this beer from my friend who just visited Hungary.

A: Nice dark brown colour. Quite typical Eastern European Dark Lager.

S: A bit sweet and mild smell.

T: Mild but very sweet taste. A bit too sweet for my taste. But not bad at all.

M&D: Very easy to drink.

This is my second Hungarian beer, yet another present from my nice Hungarian friend Tibor brought from his home town outside Budapest. Coming in a 500ml brown bottle, BB 22/01/2007, served lightly-chilled in a weizen glass.

A: dark russet hue, great clarity; coming with a beige frothy head with pretty decent retention, gradually settling down and leaving uneven lacing behind; moderate carbonation.
S: semi-bitter chocolates, roasted walnuts, treacles, and a raw-ish and rather chewy roastiness of black malts... the enticing maltiness (reminiscent of characters of Munich malts) is skirted with a mildly lemony touch of lager malts and hops. Balanced and soft.
T: smoothly-textured caramely maltiness comes with the bitter-sweetness of semi-roasted malts and a nutty aftertaste, echoed by a very delicate, doughy-sourness of pale lager... a powdery palate of dark malts creeps up, gradually turning dryish, a bit like black-tea added with a spoonful of chocolate syrup, while a moderate bitterness of dark malts lingers in the end.
M&D: smooth on the palate, with a mildly spritziness to keep a refreshing feel--not heavy at all for a 5.8%abv. lager, yet the body does fall a little thin at the end of tasting. Overall this is a quite decent beer, very much like a Munich Dunkel, showing a balanced profile and a pleasant, soft texture if the abv. is taken into account... very easy-drinking too! Great thanks go to Tibor-the-Hun, for this nice brew as well as for making me the first reviewer of this beer on the BA site~~
