This is pub opened in May 2005, proprieted (is that a real word?) by the people who brought The Fat Cat into the world. For those not in the know, The Fat Cat is a fantastic pub, a real ale mecca in Norwich. Anyway, The Shed is almost as good as the award-winning Fat Cat. One of the only things that lowers its appeal is that it's way outside the Norwich city centre, but then again so is Fat Cat. The Shed is in a suburb north of the city, on the corner of Lawson and Sprowston Rd. Hard to miss when you finally get there: green shed-like siding and red brick, sort of looks like a community centre.

There's a large open interior bar area and the light-colored walls gives the place a newish feel. Lots of live music, practically every day of the week. The place was packed on the early Sunday afternoon that I went there and an acoustic three-piece band was doing cover songs. There is a lot of outdoor seating too, both in front and back of the building. And lots of antique cider-making equipment (I think) laying around.

The beer selection is great, just like at The Fat Cat. 10 - 15 real ales from smallish independent breweries. The biggest ones are Adnams and Timothy Taylor's. They serve these beers from hand-pumps and gravity. High turnover means bad pints are a rarity. I had a pint of gravity-poured Fraoch Heather Ale... scrumptious! Like at the Fat Cat, they also have some Belgian stuff on tap and in bottles, as well as a small selection of good wines.

Though it's a bit of a hike, it's definitely worth checking out if you want good beer in Norwich. I would suggest starting a pub-walk from there, working your way into the city, as opposed to the other way around. With all the great beers on offer, you might get too "pissed" to find your way back to wherever you are staying (if you're a tourist).
