This is almost local to me when at work, as the crow flies, but with the highway being all ripped up, is a bit of an adventure to get to. However, after visiting for the first time since my college days (lo, so many years ago at WPI), I was quite impressed. Only two full aisles of beers, but oh what beers the second one is. Tons of Belgians, innumerous US micros, inc probably a case of Stone VE03, if anyone's looking... Selection better than most all in the central MA area, and is better than their sister store in the White City section of Shrewsbury, I feel.
But my main reason to go was that I was in search of a bottle of Magic Hat Thumbsucker. Called the distributor for Magic Hat in MA, they gave me a lead on Austin, called them, they had one last bottle in stock, and were more than happy to hold it for me at the register. Excellent! That is the kind of service I appreciate.
Worth a stop if you find yourself in Central MA, for sure.

I visited this store on a recent trip to Worcester. The store is laid out with two beer aisles on the left side of the store. THe furthest left is all cased brews while the next aisle is singles and sixers.
They have a great selection of belgians Fantome, Stille Nacht, Trappistes Rochefort 6, 8, and 10 and many others. ALso good selection of english ales. Stone, DFH, and Rogue were well represented too. Also some nice MA locals Berkshire Brewing among others.
WHile the selection is great I did not see anybody working the floor and was never asked if I needed anything. The cashiers were friendly but didnt seem to know much about the brews.
This is a very good store to find some goodies and if you're in WOrcester you should stop by and pick something up.

And, alas, Worcester gets such a bad rap...This store is solid. Austin's selection is strong, especially with respect to English Pale Ales / Bitters and the local, Central- and Western-Massachusetts and Northern New England microbrew scene. A large cooler in the back holds, among other beers, a nice stock of local offerings like Berkshire, Paper City, Smuttynose and the like. The selection of Continental beers, including Belgian beers, is decent, though not especially great. Austin does offer a nice selection of West Coast beers, including Stone, Rogue, Anderson Valley, etc., typically in limited varieties.
The quality of the beer is generally good, though I've had a few bad experiences now and then. The staff is always willing to answer questions, however, about how long certain bottles have been sitting around or which beers are coming in. In general the service is excellent. Austin is a big store, and not all employees know that much about beer. But the ones who do certainly know their stuff. Employees regularly present beers of the month or season, and beer tastings are also quite common. The managers have always gone out of their way to look into ordering beers I've requested. It's a good, reliable place to shop.
Note: Austin has a sister store in in the "White City" shopping area(Shrewsbury, MA) which is also strong.

A wonderful store. As the last post stated, they now have an ID scanning machine that takes all out of state IDs.
A great beer selection including microbrews, imports, and Belgians. They have a 3 door cooler dedicated just to micro, import, and Belgian singles and 750s. Over 50 or so Belgians, with a dedicated beer man bringing more all the time. Expecting 25 NEW belgians in the next 6 months. Beer tastings every Saturday, mostly Belgians although next up is a a comparison tasting Beer vs. Champagne, with 4 Champagnes, Deus, Lindemans and others. A few knowlegable beer guys are usually on hand. Good stuff.
