Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – The beer is served a deep mahogany color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head fades very fast leaving just a trace of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma of the brew is big of a caramel and roast with some other lighter notes of a dark fruit nature of plum and raisin. Along with these aromas comes some other notes grain and a decent bready smell.

Taste- The taste begins with a quite roasty and rather caramel and molasses sweet taste. As the taste moves on more and more fruity tastes come to the tongue, being rather strong in the dark fruit nature of raisin, plum, cherry as well as a bit of raspberry. Toward the end the more hay, earth, and grassy hop as well as some graininess comes to the tongue, all at expense of a little bit of the sweet, leaving one with a still rather sweet and roasty taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is on the medium side for a doppelbock of 7 % with a carbonation level that is rather low. For the rich sweet, malty, and roasty tastes of the brew the feel is rather nice and makes for a nice slow sipping brew.

Overall – A fairly nice brew overall. A little bit on the more malty and roasty side for a doppelbock, but it does have some light hop tastes with some nice fruit flavors. Overall a rich tasting brew, but still very drinkable overall.
