Notes/Commercial Description:
A traditional oatmeal stout with an intense roast barley flavors and mildly hopped using Willamette and Nugget hops. The robust flavour is balanced with a smooth creamy finish. It is named for the razor's edge ridge that comes off the south flank of Mount Garibaldi's Atwell Peak.

Bottle I brought to share at Retsinis' tasting.

Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy tan head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and toasted oat aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa, char, and toasted oat flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty, but there is a better mix in the aromas to me.

Serving type: bottle.

On tap at Diva at the Met, Vancouver.

Ruby black with rimming tan head.
Big phenolic band-aid nose with a bit of smoke and sour milk.
Black currant, ash, smoke, and Marmite; a sweet black Twizzler hit then milk chocolate as it warms.
Tart cola finish and barky linger.
Medium, round, smooth but fizzy, a bit of oil.

Some rough, tart, and dirty notes. A hotel bar could mean some questionable condition, I admit. But it’s not especially oatmeal smooth, either. Underwhelming.

1L bottle purchased as a single from Beverage Warehouse, Winooski, VT.

Poured into 2013 Pioneer stein #42, formed a 3/4" tan head over the almost opaque dark brown brew. Head fizzes away gradually, with leggy spotty lacing. Aroma is roasted oats.

Taste is sweet chocolate to start, rich oats in the middle, and a balnced close. Mouthfeel is smooth, and drinkability is great. Nice, easy-drinking stout, glad I tried these guys.

Pours nearly pitch black except for just a tinge of reddish brown when held directly to the light,a creamy billowing light beige head atop.Roast and more roast in the nose, some char as well, not much sweetness to be found here.Heavily roasted flavors with some of that char, tobacco, and a bit of smoke, there is some bitter chocolate and just a hint of molasses to provide nominal sweetness. The feel is fuller to almost creamy. This is an in your face roasted oatmeal stout,if you like dryer versions of the style, wich I do, this is for you.

A: Pours an opaque (though still clear) jet black in color with moderate to significant amounts of active visible carbonation along the edges of the glass with only the faintest of hints of crimson red highlights. The beer has a three finger tall foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a very thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thick ring at the edges of the glass. Significant amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of roasted malts, toasted oats, and just the slightest hint of charred malts. Very light notes of bittersweet chocolate aromas.

T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted malts with just a touch of charred malts. Slightly lighter flavors of toasted oats with some light to moderate flavors of bittersweet chocolate and a touch of coffee. Light amounts of bitterness in the finish which does not linger for too long.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.

O: Very easy to drink and just almost sessionable with the lower than average ABV for the style. Nice flavors and aromas with a smooth mouthfeel. Nothing outrageous nor any kind of whale here but definitely an enjoyable brew.

Man, this is good brew. Poured a tad warm with a colossal, foamy, frothy, fluffy, tan head that lasts for a while and a bit a lace. Color is a clear, almost opaque garnet. Aroma is roast, malt, dark old leather, earth, hint of funk. Flavors somewhat like nose with bittersweet malt and tang up front and very well balanced. Body is strangely light yet full with spot on carbonation. Finish is like flavor, a hint of smoke and good length. Super drinkable. Wish we could get it locally.
