2008 Vintage, Poured into a Cigar City snifter

A: pours dark black, very thick. 2 finger mocha colored foam. pour seems to be flat, zero carbonation.

S: roasted malts, backer's chocolate and sweet bourbon, booze is noticeable, but not overwhelming

T: malts, baker's chocolate on the bitter side, but the bourbon smooths and sweetens it out nicely. hints of vanilla and oak help smooth it over too.

M/D: This bottle seemed to have lost almost all of its carbonation, which really hurt the mouth feel. The beer is very tasty, but it was lacking carbonation to truly make this beer delicious. It was not an overly thick beer, especially for a big stout. Worth the purchase, I would say.

Vintage 2011, aged in brandy barrels, sealed with bronze colored wax
L - black with a beige head
S - very sweet and fruity with fig, cherry, oak
T - sweet, fruity, cherry, brandy, dark chocolate, booze, vanilla, oak
F - creamy, full bodied, very boozy
O - overly boozy and cloyingly sweet at times, but as expected for this 'dessert' style sipper of a stout; it's still very solid all around, and a fun one to try

2009 vintage. thanks a ton to mjmadsen21 for this sweet extra! been sittin on this for a while and with 2009 BCBS hitting the sweet spot now, seemed like the ideal time to hit up this 2009 bourbon barrel aged stout. enjoyed from a southampton irs oversized snifter.

a - pried the wax from the bottle and opened the beer. pours a watery yet silky black with a thin bubbly head that bubbled away quick leaving a black beer with a boozy shine. looks a little watery.

s - bittery bakers chocolate with some boozy glazing that tickles my nose with that mentholated vibe.

t - Roasted chocolate black malts with lots of barrel. fairly sweet.

m - initially seemed a little soft and then i noticed the booziness. big, but it works...but it is BIG. fairly silky and smooth.

o - overall pretty good. this big bottle seems like it might be a bit of a chore for el solo mio, but i'm up for the challenge.

Dark brown/black body with lighter edges. No head.

Smells sweet from the bourbon. Enjoyable.

Bourbon bomb but very good. Tastes like a sweet savory saliva inducing deep dark bacon yumstuff. Tastes like a poor mans BCBS.

Mouthfeel and carbonation are this beers downfall. Carbonation couldn't be closer to nil...mouthfeel isn't thick enough to meet the abv/style for me.

I liked it but wish it had the proper mouthfeel. Thanks for the share TATURBO.

2008 vintage, thanks Denise! Waxed bottle, must be good right?

Black body, minimal head. Boring appearance wreaks of mediocrity. String bourbon character in the aroma. Slightly oxidized, could use more roasty malts.

Tastes like a first-generation homebrew imperial stout: mediocre malt backbone, bourbon is all over the place, lacks refinement. These guys could learn a lot from Founders Imperial Stout. Body is unacceptably thin for the style.

Meh.

Bottle pour courtesy of DarthKostrizer at Woodshop 7 held at Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach, CA.

2008 vintage.

Pours an almost opaque super dark black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to an oily film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, bourbon, vanilla, and wood. Taste is much the same with a woody finish after each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer but the mouthfeel situation makes it a bit of a chore to drink.
