Bottled August 22? 2013, poured into snifter.
A: Pours an opaque brown-black color, with half a finger of creamy brown head topping off the glass.
S: Strong coffee aroma with a formidable malt backbone built around chocolate and heavily roasted malt, with a dark fruity sweetness just making itself known. A slight burnt smell from either the coffee or malts mixes nicely with the sweetness.
T: Coffee and roasted malts dominate, with a decent amount of dark chocolate and a hint of dark fruits or molasses providing a bit of sweetness that the other flavors can't account for. Simple but very tasty. Long, roasty finish.
M: Medium-bodied and moderately carbonated, very smooth and creamy.
O: Very solid beer, as you probably guessed. Simple but incredibly well made. It's probably better to have this one fresh; an older review of mine noted substantially less coffee flavor and more fruitiness, along with a lower rating (but still a good one, so don't go pouring any year-old bottles out).

On principle, I am hesitant to rate a beer as perfect. This is the tastiest stout I have ever had. Is it the best? I am not sure, and the only reason I'm not sure is that there are still other beers out there in the world. It pours heavy, no head and minimal lacing, into a tulip glass (next time I'll use a snifter). It tastes sweet, and bitter, and chocolatey - I sense coffee, but on my palate the chocolate is more present - and heavy. Like I really could have it for breakfast. And by God the next time I don't have to work and my kid is already at daycare, I will have one for breakfast, and by then maybe I'll decide it truly is the best stout ever.
