"Double coffee chocolate oatmeal stout" is probably all I need to hear to quit my job and go on tour with a beer, but Breakfast Stout delivers well beyond its tantalizing description. It pours a viscous, tar-pitch black with a small, quickly dissipating brown head and smells of coffee, smoked bacon, baking chocolate and seasoned cast iron -- or basically the way I imagine the kitchen smelled in the little house on Little House on the Prairie.
... The depth of flavor in this beer is incredible, with all the individual elements coming through separately while melding together into a rich, smooth drink that is much more than the sum of its parts. The flavor smacks of dark chocolate, coffee and smoky roasted malts, with a slight burnt edge. The rich, creamy mouthfeel is balanced with a slight (and welcome) astringency, while the generous 8.3 percent alcohol content is hardly apparent.
