Serving: 8 oz. pour into a snifter at the Taproom. Basically, this is BA Curmudgeon infused with spices like Allspice, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, etc.
A: A murky, light brown. Minimal head. Good lacing.
S: Soft notes of bourbon, lots of spice, mostly cinnamon. Smells like a gingerbread man!
T: Initially very nice, smooth bourbon flavor, malty sweetness, some gentle spices in the background, mostly cinnamon. But then the finish and aftertaste are overwhelmingly spiced. Very strong cinnamon and nutmeg flavors.
M: Very full, smooth. Good carbonation.
O: Founder's tends to stay away from the "seasonal" or holiday releases, but you'll see them every once in a while. So when I saw there was a pumpkin spiced beer on tap with BA Curmudgeon as its base, I sort of got excited. I was expecting something like Better Half with the syrupy-sweetness replaced by nice pumpkin spice flavors. However... it wasn't quite that. The spices are way too forward and strong, and the bourbon just wasn't there. The next day I had Headless Heron from Central Waters, and this beer was way better. The bourbon was up front and smooth, and the spices were softer, in the middle of the palate, and didn't linger too much, but were present enough to give you a sense of the Autumn season. And that's what these beers should be, really.
Recommendation: Although it's a class 3 rarity worth trying, it's not as good as it sounds. Seek it out if you're in the area and you really like spiced beers.

I didn't think I would like this one, but found it to be phenomenal by every measure. It strengthens my belief that Curmudgeon is Founders' base beer that best highlights the benefit of aging beer in the bourbon/maple syrup barrels.
