12 oz brown bottle, no freshness date.
A- Awesome head, the retention show its best by leaving big sticky patches of off-white lace on the glass. The center part of the head is a multi-sized bubbly mass of a plateau. Mildly hazed orangey brown color.
S- Big aroma of ruby red grapefruit and evergreen hop. Kiss of spicy rye and a big juicy fruity maltiness in the back.
T&M- Oh so very smooth, thick malty body. The bitterness tingles with small sharp bites into the maltiness, big herbal, tobacco, pungent citrus and mint hop flavors flail about. Warming alcohol hits in the middle. Clean spiciness from the rye ... solid maltiness middle to end with a lingering sun-dried herbal hop flavor.
D- My oh my, this is one tasty treat. The rye and hops complement each other well. Paired well with some aged Irish cheddar cheese.

12oz brown bottle. Cloudy, dark amber with ruby hues. Healthy frothy head with a retaining clingy lace.
Massive hoppy, herbal, fruity esters, and grapefruit aroma. Lots of spice. Sweetish too, with a nice malty base beneath. Some major dank / resiny stuff going on in the nose too.
Even, slightly chewy mouthfeel. Incredibly creamy on the palate. Big juicy fruity flavors of red delicious apples, some pear and peach. Crisp twang from the rye, and spice that segues nicely into the prickly spicy/herbal hops, and their supporting flash of citric bitterness. Floral softness in the hops, with resiny oils that stick. The alcohol seems to embed its warmth into the palate, creating an estery/fume-like presence. A bit dry in the finish with apple-y notes, rye husk, and flower pith.
This is one hell of an offering. Amazing flavors and overall character! Love it.

No label information. Red's Rye P.A. is brewed in the style of an American Pale Ale brewed with Rye. Originally a year round release, Red's Rye has since been relegated to fall seasonal 12 oz. 4 packs with year-round availability on draft.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served above 56º Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) Pours a caramel-white head of a foamy frothed consistency over a moderately hazy red amber body. Thin specked sediment generates mild cloudiness, carbonation is moderate. Retention is above average, lacing is medium and stringy. 4
(Smell) Most trained noses can easily identify the bready, spicy characteristics of rye up and front, with a mellow sweetness and subtle graininess. Other aromatic notes include a light herbal hop profile with a subtle bitterness and a mellow fruitiness. 4
(Taste) Lightly toasted grainy caramel and peppery, spicy rye collectively form a flavorful malt body, fairly clean despite its assertiveness. Hop notes are herbal, peppery, slightly citrusy, although fainter by comparison, with a moderate bitterness, although the graininess of the malt bill seems to generate the most balance to the subtle sweetness of the brew. Subliminal undertones include lightly roasted coffee beans and herbal tea. 4
(Mouthfeel) Texture is smooth, mildly dry, peppery with a mellow graininess. Carbonation is soft, forming a smooth, lightly frothy mouthfeel. Body is medium+ for the style, medium/heavy overall. Alcohol presence is moderate, off characters of mild graininess may impede drinkability, but often come with the territory of rye and caramel malt. 3.75
(Overall) An enjoyable beer by Founders. They manage to pack a lot of malt flavor into this bottle. The Rye makes for a thicker, spicier and more peppery body than Pale Ales without it, so this is a worthy try for anybody who wants a Pale Ale with a bit more malt character. I recommend enjoying it as fresh as possible as the hop flavors do not take long to drop off. 4
