Pours a deep red/amber color. Appears somewhat murky (though there is no setiment or anything of that nature). A slight khaki head develops and fades quickly. Lacing and carbonation evident.
Smell is citrusy hops and a somewhat spicy element that is common to a lot of rye beers. Overall very pleasant and the fact that it features one of my favorite hop varietals helps a lot.
Taste is in line with smell. Hoppy but not overtly bitter and the rye helps a lot with that. The elements are blended together very nicely and the taste stays consistant throughout the glass.
Mouthfeel is great for the style. The right combination of crisp/smooth. Despite a lot of flavor this is very easy to drink.
Overall this is my favorite beer of the very general "rye" style, though really this could be thought of as an IPA more than anything else. Another great job by founders and one of my personal go-to, easy to get beers for hoppy styles along with 2hearted and Hop Notch.

No label information. Red's Rye P.A. is brewed in the style of an American Pale Ale brewed with Rye. Originally a year round release, Red's Rye has since been relegated to fall seasonal 12 oz. 4 packs with year-round availability on draft.
Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served above 56º Fahrenheit.
(Appearance) Pours a caramel-white head of a foamy frothed consistency over a moderately hazy red amber body. Thin specked sediment generates mild cloudiness, carbonation is moderate. Retention is above average, lacing is medium and stringy. 4
(Smell) Most trained noses can easily identify the bready, spicy characteristics of rye up and front, with a mellow sweetness and subtle graininess. Other aromatic notes include a light herbal hop profile with a subtle bitterness and a mellow fruitiness. 4
(Taste) Lightly toasted grainy caramel and peppery, spicy rye collectively form a flavorful malt body, fairly clean despite its assertiveness. Hop notes are herbal, peppery, slightly citrusy, although fainter by comparison, with a moderate bitterness, although the graininess of the malt bill seems to generate the most balance to the subtle sweetness of the brew. Subliminal undertones include lightly roasted coffee beans and herbal tea. 4
(Mouthfeel) Texture is smooth, mildly dry, peppery with a mellow graininess. Carbonation is soft, forming a smooth, lightly frothy mouthfeel. Body is medium+ for the style, medium/heavy overall. Alcohol presence is moderate, off characters of mild graininess may impede drinkability, but often come with the territory of rye and caramel malt. 3.75
(Overall) An enjoyable beer by Founders. They manage to pack a lot of malt flavor into this bottle. The Rye makes for a thicker, spicier and more peppery body than Pale Ales without it, so this is a worthy try for anybody who wants a Pale Ale with a bit more malt character. I recommend enjoying it as fresh as possible as the hop flavors do not take long to drop off. 4
