Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a snifter. Pours a hazy ruby-tobacco. 1 finger off white head, good lacing. Smells of syrupy malt and piney hops.

Amazing flavor. Smooth to start out with, earthy pine hop flavors along with a sweet malty backbone. The finish is slightly more bitter than the start with the hops coming forward toward the end. Just delicious.

Mouthfeel is slightly syrupy and thick, not in a bad way though. Carbonation is medium. Overall I really enjoyed this beer. The harshness of the rye is held in check by the other flavors. I'm glad I got it and will probably be picking up a sixer of it in the near future.

Bottle dated 11/21/2012.

Poured into a snifter glass from 12 oz bottle.

Very clear appearance. Ruby colored hues. Copper amber in color. Some bubbles seen rising up. Very faint head of a thin layer. Decent lacing on the sides. Looks very neat.

Nose is a bit of faint IPA. A good amount of hops mixed with malt aroma. Citrus, grape fruit, somewhat earthy. Malt is also dominant with bread and caramel type of notes.

Taste is bitter mostly due to rye and hops. A good interplay of malt, rye and hops that presents a well balanced and very easy drinking rye beer. Hops are very much similar to nose and mix well with the body. Dry hopped for sure. Good feel on palate and the finish is bitter.

Mouth feel is medium bodied. Smooth and easy. Sessionable. Moderate carbonation. No astringency except for some bitterness.

Gorgeous coloring with reds and light yellow/orange tints. I guess you can call it a radiant mahogany. The head was short but mildly creamy with tons of lacing.

The scent is very strong with "hyped up" hoppiness. Floral pine notes with a hidden sweetness there's some citrusy tones in there.

A touch of rye, a strong hop flavor and some earthy flavors dominate an unbalanced array. The hops are a touch overpowering but then again that's what was advertised. The rye is left begging, wanting to share the spotlight but getting drowned out. The finish is a touch earthy, almost oniony. Overall the taste is of a good quality I just caught myself savoring the malty, grainy rye flavors and wishing the hops didn't overwhelm.
