Bottled on 2/6/12, printed on bottle.

This brew pours a nice sandy maroon color, and a 2 finger that's slightly sandy orange in appearance, nice retention of the frothy head, thick lacing down the side of the glass throughout the drink.

Good nose; I like the grapefruit and citrus front mixed with some sweet grain, some spice (pepper).

This has a wonderful taste all the way through. Great bitter fruit and hop (deep hop, similar to double trouble and the centenial in a way, amarilo hop? Not completely confident on my hop varieties yet, but recognize some different hops), wonderful malt presence as a medium or carrier throughout the brew, really really nicely done on the malt characteristics, not overpowering on the rye eihter, superbly balanced. I do get a little caramel taste, more deep hops, smooth hops (amarilo? someone please correct me if I'm wrong), crispness from the rye and a great balance of rye, hops, and malt. Great mouthfeel, almost a creaminess to the drink, (pour vigirously and you'll get a really nice creaminess).

All in all, wonderful as usual from the masters at Founders.

Just a testiment to the microbrew revolution!!! HA HA Founders Nation???

Definatly going to enjoy this one again, Cheers!!

12oz bottle, pours a bronzish-red color with a thin beige head that settles to a layer of foam atop the ale. Good clarity. A little lacing on the glass. Aromas are great with notes of floral, citric, piny hops, rye malt, and carameley sweetness. Tastes of peppery rye hit the palate up-front followed by strong piny astringency and bitterness from the hops. Notes of pungent grapefruit rind, caramel, aspirin, and peppery spiciness battle in the mouth, while being crisp yet finishing dry. Overall, always a favorite of mine, and one of the best rye beers out there.

$5.49 for a 32oz Growler at Ale Yeah. Poured into a pint glass.

a- a beautiful ruby reddish color and amber orange. a small white head forms that thins out into a ring. lively with lots of bubbles rising to the top.

s- minimal smell of hops and pine, slight bready scent.

t- light hops, a nice bitterness, rye dryness and spice. there's a very, very slight sourness, and it's almost unnoticeable, but it's there. light malt. alcohol is not noticeable at all.

m- crisp, refreshing, with a dry finish. good carbonation, light body. a well balanced beer.

o- great beer for the weather. great for the price. would purchase again.
