On tap at the Happy Gnome in St. Paul, MN. Served in a 16 oz. glass.

Appearance: Color is a dark brownish black with a lot of rising cream and bubbles from the nitro. Settles into a three finger off white head with good retention. Lots of creamy lacing is left.

Smell: A roasty, sweet, and very creamy malt forward aroma with good hints of chocolate and oats. Dark roasted barley malts with good hints of chocolate, oatmeal, chocolate milk, cream, and coffee as well as some grains, toast, and yeast. Sweet hints of brown sugar. Nugget hops add some bitterness. A very solid creamy chocolate stout aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a very creamy and nicely sweet dark roasted malt driven taste with nice notes of chocolate and oats. Upfront dark roasted barley malts with a solid taste of sweet chocolate, oatmeal, cream, chocolate milk, and coffee. Also some notes of toast, grains, biscuit, and yeast. Slight taste of sugar sweetness. Balancing bitterness from the nugget hops. A very solid nitro chocolate stout taste.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a high amount of carbonation. Very creamy and silky smooth. Finishes fairly dry.

Overall: A pretty good nitro take on a light oatmeal stout. Good creamy chocolate notes with some balancing hops towards the finish.

A re-review, a retrospective if you will. 12oz pour in the Founder's Taproom from a nitro-tap on 18 April 2014.

A: Inky black-brown body, no light gets through this. Lot's of bubbles, and a creamy head, one finger, excellent retention, light tan color. Significant lacing.

S: Lots of roasted malts, scents of chocolate and coffee. Sweet aromas abound.

T: Roasted malts and toasty, biscuity flavor, clearly sweet. The oats and creaminess make the flavors incredibly smooth and combined. Finishes with a nice hop bitterness to even out the sweetness up front, but not strongly hopped.

M: Medium body, gentle carbonation. Creamy. Crisp finish.

O: Tasty oatmeal stout. Enjoyable to drink, slightly heavy. Could easily be a go to for accompanying a steak or burger. The lower 4.5% abv makes this an easily drinkable beer that accompanies food or good conversation.

A - Black, nitro pour tan head has good retention and lacing.

S/T - Mild, with oats, light roasted malt and mildly bitter roasted grains.

M - Light body, creamy smooth texture at first, then turns a little watery, expected with the nitro pour. Finishes clean.

O - Nice lunch session beer, with mild flavors. I could drink a few of these easy.

On nitro tap at 2 Bros. Pours a dark brownish black color with over an inch of thick brown head. Good amount of lacing. The aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, coffee and earth. Taste is a lot like the aroma. Roasty and lightly smokey with dark chocolate. Light hints of sweet vanilla and oatmeal. Slight dark chocolate bitterness but it's a sweet beer overall. Caramel and toasted malts at the finish. Has that nice velvety and creamy mouthfeel you expect from nitro. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this on nitro and would like to have a chance to try the regular version. Worth looking for.

Founders Oatmeal Stout

Nitrooo

Poured into pint glass

A: Porter black not quite stout black but still black

S: Typical for the style . . . Roasted

T: This is a tasty sessionable stout. I'll go wiith "typical" again. Not too often I have a stout that is not Russian Imperial so that might be throwing me off a bit. It is tasty but the flavor just doesn't deliver for me right up front but . . . but . . . It is tasty, it does linger and makes me want another sip.

M: A bit thin but I just might not be used to these "non imperial stouts"

O: Rather tasty really . . . I believe I'll have another

Serving type: on-tap
