Had this last night on tap. Not my thing, didn't get any barrel, got plenty of hot sauce. Paired with Kimchi fries, worked alright, but didn't really work on its own. Don't mind some heat with body, this beer just doesn't carry the day

Not a huge fan of Session IPAs. This one did not change my mind.

An absolutely heinous brew. Look, I love spicy beer. Habanero Sculpin? Hell yeah. Abraxas/Huna/MexiCake/etc.? Splendid. Hell, one of my favorite local beers of all time is a hatch chile-infused cream ale from Fate Brewing. Like liquid green chile cornbread. I. LOVE. Spicy. Beer.

So, naturally, I had to give this a run out when I saw it on tap. All I knew was that it was All Day (a SIPA I otherwise enjoy) aged in hot sauce barrels. Based on the info here on BA, apparently those barrels had previously held bourbon, KBS, maple syrup, AND hot sauce. Very interesting indeed, and maybe that sheds a bit of light on some of the notes I experienced in the beer. As for that beer, well, yeah, I'm sticking with heinous. Flat off the tap, zero head, zero bubbles, just a tangerine-colored liquid, thick looking as you swirl it in the glass. On the palate, that thick body is confirmed, and combined with the lack of carb (and awful flavors) makes it tough stuff to slug down. Nose is bbq sauce/bbq potato chip, slight tomato/vinegar notes, and more bbq sauce. Palate is similar, not really spicy so much as tart (a la vinegar?), and then with an awful sweet note as well (perhaps from the previous maple syrup barrel use?). Again, I love spicy beer. I love weird adjuncts in general (to wit, Ballast Point's Thai Chili/Ginger/Lime Wahoo Wheat is totally a winner for me), but this was a spectacular failure and, arguably, one of the worst beers I've tried.

Avoid at all costs.

An abused IPA that had already been discarded in the first place, now beaten to within an inch of its life, and tortured to death with stale hot sauce.

Had a 5oz taster at MiKro in Hamden last night for the Founders take-over. Comes out a slightly hazy rust color with no head. Smell is very similar to Tabasco with the spicy vinegar at the forefront, definitely worried about this as I am not a huge Tabasco fan since it is too vinegar-y for me. After first sip I'm much more pleased with this. It starts sweet and bready and then there is a big blast of hot sauce flavor, but sans the heat. Long finish of hot sauce with hints of barrel woodiness, very much like a bloody mary. No real hops present here anymore. Mouthfeel is a little thin due to the lack of carbonation, taste lingers for quite some time. Overall it's a cool experience to try it, I honestly liked it and thought it was good, but I would hesitate getting 12oz of it.
