Had on tap at Sheffield's in Chicago, poured Into a goblet.
A - Poured a very dark mahogany color, with one finger of light tan head. Great lacing left behind as I sipped.
S - This smell was big earthy hops, pine, and some musty grapefruit.
T/M - The taste isn't as fierce as the smell leads onto, but it is still pretty assertive with the hops. Sharp pine hits the tongue first, followed by a nice caramel malt backbone. Then finishes with a bitter lemon resin. Medium/heavy mouthfeel, really good carbonation.
O - Overall this beer is a very good DIPA. Big hop profile, but an even bigger malt bill to stand up to the alpha acids. Very nice hop resin left behind in the aftertaste. I love that in a DIPA. The alcohol is a little sharp at 12%, but still isn't that fiery.

Bottled 5/24/13 at 45 degrees into imperial pint
Aroma – very deep pine/hemlock aroma
Head large (6.5cm), frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing to a 2 mm layer
Body clear, more amber than orange
Flavor begins with a thick sweet piney taste, very resinous, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate is medium, oily to syrupy, with a light bitter finish
I realize this beer is technically past its prime, but has aged well, becoming a very smooth flavorable ale. I’ll be buying more to cellar.
