Pours out bright amber and sits deep reddish brown in the glass with a large off-white head. Fades to a good skim, leaving a few strands of lace around the glass. Good choice for a tuliped glass, bright amber to deep, almost brown.
Smells rich and malty with a nice nutty undertone. Big on citrusy hops, grapefruit rinds, lemon and dreid apricot. Streams of caramel blend with a light, spicy hint of alcohol.
Tastes mildly sweet up front, loads of caramely malts running abound. Shifts to bright, hoppy flavors, all in the citrus and spice category. Ripe grapefruit, lime, orange and a twist of lemon zest. Peppery hop spiciness excentuated through a warming alcoholic glow. Toasty and nutty all at the same time. Apricots add an interesting mix to the well bittered finish.
Velvety smoothness and super-fine carbonation. Thick, full body, like a coating of maple syrup over you mouth. Utterly fantastic.
200+ IBUs is an overstatement, but it by all means a wonderful beer. Even at 13%, it's very consumable. I would love to snuggle up with this beer all night long.
