Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine March 07
The label reads "Triple IPA." Man, you've gotta love American brewers. When an idea has been done a few too many times, just make it bigger!
Hazy, tawny color. Thin on the head but the lace stays for a good while. Fresh, orange citric zest and soft piney resin aroma with a flare of alcohol and toasted malt. Intense palate of alcohol and hops right from the get go. Big oily bite of hop bitterness and a sting of spicy alcohol set the tone, followed by waves upon waves of hop bitterness with pungent citric rind flavors. Alcohol throws out some tropical fruit (mango and pineapple) and an assertive heat. Seems like the aftertaste lasts forever, with a hardcore bitter hop and the residuals of a spicy alcohol warmth.
This beer is insane. No, absolutely insane! Both the alcohol and hops dropped bombs on our palates, and it's going to be hard to recover from the shredding. As for a pairing: fight fire with fire! Aim and launch it at some really spicy food, preferably something with habanero peppers.
