12oz single from CBX. Poured into a Bell's tulip glass...
A: Deep, reddish copper; light beige head - about a finger's worth, that leaves a few spotty, thick webs of lace - pretty impressive lacing for an ale of this stature.
S: Some pretty serious pine aroma, with more alcohol in the nose as it warms; has a little stank on it... wet dog-esque, but this is quickly lost to more powerful boozy notes; some pretty substantial brown sugar notes, too.
T: Heavy pine cone; alcohol is noticeble; leaves a pretty bitter finish on the palate; almost an oily hoppiness; considering this is a triple IPA, there is a rather noticeable malt profile - caramel and light toffee.
M: Heavy... full body; low carbonation and viscous; has the feel of a big beer.
O: Wow - a big beer... Pretty noticeable alcohol in the aroma and taste, especially as things warm up. Hops are big time, but the malt isn't entirely lost... This kind of reminds me more of a super-hopped barleywine, especially with the feel. Glad I tried this!

Bottled 5/24/13 at 45 degrees into imperial pint
Aroma – very deep pine/hemlock aroma
Head large (6.5cm), frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing to a 2 mm layer
Body clear, more amber than orange
Flavor begins with a thick sweet piney taste, very resinous, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate is medium, oily to syrupy, with a light bitter finish
I realize this beer is technically past its prime, but has aged well, becoming a very smooth flavorable ale. I’ll be buying more to cellar.
