12oz bottle received in trade from bmanning, poured into a Portsmouth goblet.
A - Pours a deep amber/copper, maybe somewhat red, with a slight chill haze. Half finger of creamy, off white head forms and quickly disappears to a nice collar around the edge of the glass.
S - Deep, almost syrupy caramel malt aromas. Thick, sweet and almost candy like. Some fresh piney hops battle with the malt. Alcohol aroma makes it through the malt too. A touch of bubblegum as it warms up a little. Smells like a good American barleywine. Not as much hops as I anticipated, but very good.
T - Sweet, malty, syrupy, caramel backbone. Definitely taste the alcohol and feel it some too. Wouldn't really classify it as "hot", but definitely feel it in the back of the throat in the swallow. Plenty of hop bitterness to balance the huge maltiness here. A little more hop flavor present than the aroma would indicate - get pine and citrusy flavors here.
M - Really thick and chewy on this one. Has almost a syrupy character which is consistent in the smell, taste and mouthfeel. Carbonation is medium, which seems just about right for this one. Some tingle, but not really prickly or mouth filling.
D - This is definitely a sipper...but tastes good enough to make you drink it faster than you maybe you should. This is a really thick and full flavored beer. Would do well as the one beer for a night.
Really enjoyed this beer. Not exactly, but kinda makes me think of a Bigfoot with a little age on it, after the hops die down a bit. Triple IPA/Barleywine...I don't know, but it is working for me.

Bottled 5/24/13 at 45 degrees into imperial pint
Aroma – very deep pine/hemlock aroma
Head large (6.5cm), frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing to a 2 mm layer
Body clear, more amber than orange
Flavor begins with a thick sweet piney taste, very resinous, no alcohol, no diacetyl
Palate is medium, oily to syrupy, with a light bitter finish
I realize this beer is technically past its prime, but has aged well, becoming a very smooth flavorable ale. I’ll be buying more to cellar.
