Bottle in Duvel glass on Oct 21, 2011.
Golden honey yellow with a 1/2 inch white head that seems to dissipate relatively quickly. A little lighter in color than expected.
Great pungent, dense grapefruit and citrus aroma from hops. It has a thick, sticky nature to the aroma somehow. Also get faint caramel, biscuit notes from the malt. Definitively one of the better smelling IPAs I've had in awhile.
Initially, sweet citrus and light caramel note. This quickly transitions into a piney-dominating flavor of the hops, with note of lemon and faintly grapefruit. Much less citrus taste than expected.
Finishes with a moderate-high lingering bitterness with slight dryness.
Mild-moderate thickness with nice, soft carbonation that gives the beer a mild pleasant creaminess. Overall, on the dry end, with notable astringency from the hops.
Great smelling beer, but the taste profile is more average to me. Not as much citrus as I anticipated in the flavor, and full disclosure, as I like in IPAs. I'd like to see that same great aroma come through in the flavor of the hops too.
